De Grendel Lions Easter
Lion Martin and Jacques visited Wolwerivier to hand out Easter eggs to children living there. On arrival we met these amazing volunteers, Loukas Wallaart (Netherlands), Emma Rubenstein (France) and Nikolene Grud (Denmark), assisting the Save Foundtion working with the children in Wolwerivier. They were very happy to receive the easter eggs and ensure the kiddies will have something sweet to enjoy this Easter.

Yesterday Lion Kathy made children at the ACVV De Grendel Creche in Bothasig very happy when she popped in with Easter eggs to spread there Easter message. A very happy Lucy from the creche received it.

DE GRENDEL LIONS CLUB EASTER MAGIC
During last week De Grendel Lions Club was blessed with a ginormous donation of Easter eggs by our Easter Egg project partners, Edgemead Primary School (convened by Gr 5Mc), Edgemead Educare and The Living Tree Educare in Bothasig.
This donation will be utilized to spread the Lions magic to predominantly children and also NGO's for disabled people.

Edgemead: De Grendel Lions Club has started off their year and launched one of their most important projects this year. The vision of De Grendel Lions is just that, to see how they can assist sight impaired people to improve their vision. For this, they need the buy in of the local community.

The club has initiated Project Vision, which is also one of the eight Lions Club International pillars of service, to collect unused spectacles, which is often found in household gathering dust, as the owners do not want to get rid of it. Instead of taking up space, De Grendel Lions would our community to support their drive by dropping it off at in a special Lions Brightsight collection box, which will be located at Bothasig and Edgemead Libraries. Please note that damaged or broken spectacles cannot be used as they will not be repaired, so well loved ones will fit the bill.
What will happen to the spectacles donated? Will it end up in boxes stored away? Members from De Grendel Lions Club will regularly collect the donated spectacles and ship it off to Lions Brightsight, a Lions Multiple District 410 project for assessment and use.
Lions Brightsight provides corrective spectacles to people in need throughout the Republic of South Africa as well as the neighbouring states.
Since its inception in July 1978, thousands of spectacles have been distributed to people, bringing smiles to the faces of people from all over the country. Without the help of Lions Clubs and Lions Brightsight they would have gone through life with impaired vision.
The objectives of Lions Brightsight is to receive prescriptions from Lions Clubs, Provincial Hospitals, Optometric Clinics, and various other Organisations and to process these scripts at low cost, using new and pre-owned frames that are in excellent condition, fitted with new prescription lenses. (As stated on the Lions Brightsight web site).
Lion President Glenda Hon thanked the Head Librarians of both local libraries for allowing De Grendel Lions to place the collection boxes in the respective libraries and their willingness to support Project Vision.

De Grendel Lions receives prestigious award
At the recent Lions Zone 9 Zone meeting, De Grendel Lions Club was pleasantly surprised when the club received a very prestigious Lions award from Lions District 410W District Governor Bevil Lakay. De Grendel Lions Club received a Club Excellence award for 2024 -2025 from Lions Club International. The Club Excellence Award acknowledges the dedication and legacy of service within individual clubs. It recognizes clubs for outstanding service, membership growth, and operational leadership.He mentioned that he was very proud that the club received this specific award as he knows the impact that De Grendel Lions make with all their club activities and projects. According to DG Lakay he always enjoys visiting De Grendel Lions Club as he is always made to feel at home by the members, and that the members are so enthusiastic regarding Lions activities. Lion President Glenda Hon thanked DG Lakay for receiving this honour. She also thanked the previous District Governor Jose Braga Borges for nominating the club to receive this honour. She indicated that she is humbled as the award is a testament of the hard work of all the club members and the great community it serves.
