De Grendel Lions celebrates Mandela Day
On 17 July 2026 members from De Grendel Lions Club surprised the children and staff of the Sunshine Corner Playschool and Daycare crèche in Bothasig with a visit to celebrate Mandela Day.
Members of De Grendel Lions did not arrive empty handed as they brought something nice for lunch. The intrepid members, supported by crèche staff, proceeded to treat the the children with freshly prepared hotdogs and cool drinks. The surprise lunch was rounded off by scrumptious cupcakes for dessert. The smiles on the faces of the children and staff indicated that they were very happy and pleasantly surprised. The Lions Club members were also in good spirits as they thouroughly enjoyed the more than 67 minutes spent at the crèche.
De Grendel Lions were not alone as they had teamed up with another community partner. Samantha Manel and Chelsey de Jager, members from Edgemead Library attended the event as well. While the arrangements in the kitchen took place, they took the opportunity to read stories to the mesmerized children listening attentively. The greatest vote of thanks however came from the smiles and hugs of the children who totally enjoyed the surprise.
