Big Bay Surf Lifesaving Club

Big Bay Surf Lifesaving Club Big Bay Surf Lifesaving Club Lifesaving on Big Bay beach started in 1982, necessitated by the growing popularity of Big Bay for windsurfing.

Known as the Blouberg Surf Lifesaving Club until 2006, the Club then changed its name to Big Bay Surf Lifesaving Club to form a closer association with its home beach. Big Bay beach remains a popular destination for water sports enthusiasts from around the globe. You can expect our lifeguards to patrol the beach from the first weekend in November until after the Easter weekend on Saturdays from 14

:00 to 18:00 and on Sundays from 10:00 to 18:00. Additional shifts are added during school holidays. You will also see our lifeguards participate in rigorous beach and water training on Friday evenings and Sunday mornings. Several of our lifeguards are top athletes in disciplines such as swimming, surfing, surfskiing and running. Most of our lifeguards join the Club as micro nippers (5 to 7) or nippers (8 to 14) and have been training with us for many years. If you would like to enroll your child as a “Future Big Bay Lifeguard” please contact us and we will gladly explain the benefits.
