🌊 Big Bay Development: Little Surfers, Big Adventures! 🏄‍♂️

One of our favourite moments recently was seeing the Big Bay Development Programme take part in a surf camp ❤️ for the first time!

For children whose experience in the water has largely been in a swimming pool, stepping into the ocean with a surfboard is a huge milestone. And the best part? They absolutely loved it!

This special experience was made possible through the power of community and collaboration.

🏄 Michael from Wave Ready has taken the lead in getting the children onto surfboards and helping build a regular surf programme.

🩱 Coral Wetsuits donated wetsuits to help the children get into the cold Cape Town water comfortably.

🌊 Sarah from Dive Action has been instrumental in creating opportunities that broaden the children’s exposure to water-based activities and new experiences.

The children also had the opportunity to meet Matti from South African Waterski & Wakeboard, opening the door to even more exciting possibilities in the world of water sports.

At Big Bay, development is about more than learning to swim. It’s about building confidence, discovering new passions and giving children opportunities they might never have had otherwise.

A huge thank you to Michael, Coral Wetsuits, Sarah, Matti and everyone helping us make these experiences possible. Together, we’re opening up a world of opportunities, one wave at a time 💙

🏃‍♀️🌊 Big Bay at the Blouberg Marathon 🫶

Our Big Bay Surf Lifesaving Club crew was out supporting the Blouberg Marathon, helping on the day while also raising funds for our club 🙌

Thank you to everyone who supported, volunteered and helped make the day a success. Every contribution helps us continue supporting our athletes, lifeguards and junior programmes. 💪🌊

🔥Athlete Takeover: Caleb Jansen – Friday, 2 October 🏖️

Caleb Jansen is coming off a season he can be pretty stoked with, showing just how much crossover there is between beach and pool lifesaving.

Racing for Big Bay Surf Lifesaving Club, Caleb finished second in Beach Flags at the 2025 Western Cape Surf Lifesaving Championships, before claiming first place in the Senior Line Throw at the 2026 South African Lifesaving Championships. 🏆

Beach Flags is his favourite event, but Caleb is building himself into a versatile competitor across pool rescue and surf. This season, he wants to test himself against the top athletes, make the A Final at the 2026 World Championships and finish inside the top three throughout the Rescue Sport Series.

Away from racing, Caleb is an outdoor and camping enthusiast, so when he’s not training or competing, you’ll probably find him somewhere outside. 🏕️

Over the weekend, our LGs headed out to enjoy the vlei, taking in the beautiful views of Table Mountain, soaking up the sunshine and enjoying a little taste of what makes South Africa so special. 🇿🇦

Fresh air, good company and pure South African beauty. ❤️💙

Happy Heritage Day 🇿🇦

🇿🇦 Heritage Day | Ubuntu in Action. Service in Unity. Heritage in Practice.

Today, as South Africa celebrates Heritage Day, DHL Lifesaving South Africa honours the values that connect us - Ubuntu, unity, service and care for one another.

As families and visitors head to our beaches and inland recreational areas, we encourage everyone to enjoy these spaces while keeping water safety a priority.

🛟 Stay safe this Heritage Day:
- Swim where lifeguards are on duty and stay within designated areas.
- Follow lifeguard instructions, safety signs and flags.
- Never swim alone or after consuming alcohol.
- Keep children under constant supervision around water.
- Be aware of rip currents and changing conditions.
- If someone is in trouble, alert a lifeguard immediately. Only attempt a rescue if you are formally trained.

Our beaches and waterways are part of South Africa’s natural heritage. Keep them clean, respect those around you and look after one another.

This Heritage Day, let’s celebrate together and continue building safer communities. 💙🇿🇦

🏊‍♂️💜🩵 THANK YOU, TABLE VIEW PRIMARY!

Big Bay Surf Lifesaving Club recently had the opportunity to hand over a R5,000 cheque to Table View Primary as a small thank-you for opening their pool facility to our club.

Access to the pool has played an important role in helping us train and develop our lifeguards, while also supporting our development programmes for children who are learning to swim and building confidence in the water. 🌊

For a lifesaving club, access to safe training facilities is invaluable. It helps us develop stronger, more confident lifeguards and gives young swimmers the opportunity to build essential water skills from an early age.

We’re incredibly grateful to Table View Primary for supporting our club and helping us invest in safer swimmers, stronger lifeguards and a stronger community.
