🌊 100 years old today, Sir David Attenborough!

You’ve dedicated a lifetime to helping us see what we’d rather look away from — and what becomes possible when we don’t. You’ve turned wonder into responsibility. Given the ocean a voice, and ignited ours.

Happy Birthday to an extraordinary centenarian. Thank you for your service to nature and humanity, Sir. 🐟

Two fresh research publications from shine a light on and something we’ve believed from day one:

💡 Digital innovation can level the playing field for small-scale producers
🌊 Transparent, traceable supply chains can restore livelihoods *and* ecosystems

From closing information gaps to reimagining seafood value chains, the message is simple: When fishing communities have access to the right tools, data and markets, they don’t just survive – they *lead* regeneration! 🌍

For us, this isn’t theory. It’s the daily work of enabling small-scale fishers, strengthening coastal communities, and shaping a seafood system that works for people and the planet.

The future of seafood is inclusive, data-driven, and regenerative – and it’s already happening! 🔥

“Fish is more than food – it feeds billions, supports livelihoods and shapes cultures. The question isn’t just *can* we still eat fish, but what kind of relationship with the ocean we’re willing to defend.”

— ’s Dr. Serge Raemaekers

Joining fellow architects of change, Serge spoke on the panel “Can we still eat fish?” at in Paris last week – contributing to global conversations shaping a more sustainable future.

At ABALOBI, we stand with small-scale fishers navigating this reality every day – working toward a seafood system rooted in responsibility and respect for the ocean.

This week, and are honoured to host the Small-Scale Fisheries Intermediary Collective in Cape Town, South Africa 🇿🇦🌍

The Collective is a global network of non-profits, startups, researchers, cooperatives and intermediaries working shoulder-to-shoulder with small-scale fishing communities to co-create fair, inclusive and dignified market spaces. We’re reimagining systems that have historically excluded these communities from sustainability and finance conversations.

This gathering connects global insight with local experience — through site visits, market engagements and learning directly from ABALOBI fisher leaders reshaping South Africa’s small-scale fisheries sector.
