🌊 💻 A heartfelt thank you to .sivewright from .oceanlegacy NPC and Justin Vandre from TenacITy Computing for your generous donation of a repurposed laptop to the Organization 🙏🏽

We are equally grateful to the wider community whose contributions made this initiative possible — your support truly makes a difference.

This laptop is more than just technology; it is a tool for opportunity. It will support and empower our team as well as the young Defenders who come through our Defenders of the Blue Programme, helping to shape and transform their learning journeys and connection to ocean conservation.

Here’s to a meaningful partnership that brings together innovation, sustainability, and purpose — repurposing tech for nature conservation.

We are incredibly grateful for your support in helping us inspire the next generation of ocean stewards. 💙

P.S: If anyone else is keen to donate old or unused laptops or PCs and monitor screens, please get in touch with Sally or Justin and they will find a way to repurpose them for the greater community of NPOs across South Africa.

What an inspiring full-circle moment for 💙🌊

This week, our team—represented by mentor Susie and school liaison Aunty Niesa—had the incredible opportunity to join Louise Baldwin from in visiting our Defenders of the Blue (DOB) learners at Modderdam High School in Bonteheuwel.

Mission Blue played a crucial role in funding our DOB programme last year—and we’re so thrilled and grateful to announce that they will be supporting more of our programmes in 2026! 🙌

The learners were eager to share their journey—their highlights, challenges, and the impact that the DOB programme has had on them. They came prepared with thoughtful questions about Louise’s work, Mission Blue’s global impact, and the vital role of protecting Hope Spots around the world. 🌍

It was clear: the Defenders of the Blue programme has ignited a powerful passion for ocean conservation in the youth of Bonteheuwel. The future of our oceans is brighter because of them. 💙✨

Our Defenders of the Blue Programme Coordinators, Leila Nefdt and Calley Chateau-Cyster, had the privilege of representing STBP at the UCT-Marine and Antarctic Research centre for Innovation and Sustainability Early Career Researchers Conference last Friday 🌊✨

What an inspiring event! We had the opportunity to share our mission, showcase our Defenders of the Blue Programme, and highlight why we are so passionate about working with and for our communities 💙

A heartfelt thank you to for the invitation and for creating such an impactful platform for knowledge-sharing and collaboration 🙌

🌊 What’s your favourite memory at the beach?

For over 200 grade 9 learners,  through the Defenders of the Blue (DOB) Youth Initiative have made that question possible to answer, often for the very first time.

Many of the youth we work with live far from the coastline, with little to no access to the sea. Through DOB, they’ve touched sea stars on rocky shores, snorkelled through kelp forests, and discovered marine life in its full wonder, sometimes afraid, but always inspired. These are not just memories but the turning points where we’re building the next generation of ocean stewards.

But we can’t do it alone.

We’re calling on you to help us extend this transformative experience to under-resourced schools. With a donation of just R200, you can help fund the next wave of ocean guardians and keep this programme thriving in the year ahead.

Led by passionate volunteers from diverse backgrounds, the DOB initiative goes far beyond marine education. It’s rooted in mentorship, leadership development, and a powerful sense of belonging.

Let’s gift more young people a reason to protect what they’ve come to love, and create positive memories of the ocean.

💙 A massive wave of gratitude to the incredible team at Save Our Seas Foundation Shark Centre for throwing us a lifeline this weekend! 🌊🦈

Our Defenders of the Blue sessions are usually all about the great outdoors, but with the icy cold front rolling in this weekend ❄️💨, nature had other plans. At the VERY last minute, the Shark Centre opened their doors (and hearts) to us – giving us free reign to turn their space into a hub of learning, laughter & inspiration. 🙌

From exploring interactive shark & marine life displays found in False Bay 🐟🦑 to deep-dive chats about plastics, pollution, and how we can reduce, reuse, and recycle, our learners were hooked!

We also had the honour of sharing our co-founder Shamier Magmoet’s short film "Rise from the Cape Flats" 🎬 – sparking powerful emotions and inspiring these young ocean defenders to rise up as ambassadors for our blue planet. 🌍💙

Thank you, Shark Centre, for helping us turn a chilly day into a heart-warming, wave-making success! 🌊✨

🌊 Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) are a South African initiative that has accumulated both regional and international attention. MPA Day, supported by the UN Ocean Decade, was first launched in 2021.

The Table Mountain National Park MPA holds a special place in our hearts here at . With False Bay not just being a biodiverse-rich marine realm, the rocky shores, Great African SeaForest, reefs, and sandy beaches have given our favourite schoolground the Mission Blue Hope Spot status.

Today, we celebrate the importance of this MPA to us, and the many others around the world that have played a role in sustaining communities, creating jobs, and preserving both biological and cultural heritage.

While there’s still considerable work needed to build true inclusivity, at our mission is to create access to spaces that have historically been out of reach, crafting a new history, one born from exclusion, but nurtured in access.

See for more details about MPA Day.
