Have you ever considered what a homeless woman does when she has her period? If she has access to feminine hygiene products such as sanitary towels and tampons? Did you know that millions of school girls in South Africa, and all over the world, miss school every month for about a week, due to the fact that they have their periods and do not have access to sanitary towels and tampons? Did you know
that there is VAT on sanitary products in South Africa, Australia, United Kingdom and a number of states in United States of America etc.? Wingz, a community based organisation, aims to address each of these issues, by providing a “middle man” between the public, donors and women in need in the community. Wingz will be sourcing feminine hygiene products through a number of channels, through donation boxes at large supermarkets in malls, donation boxes at corporate entities, churches, schools, etc. Wingz will then collect all these donations and distribute to those in need in communities all over South Africa. Distributions will be made to the homeless, those in shelters and homes, r**e crisis centres, schools in underprivileged areas and any other girls and women in need. We expect to remain sustainable, through donations from the public and funding from donors, without taking profits from the organisation. Too often we stand idly by and do nothing to help one another. We live our lives blindly and often don’t realise the needs of those who are suffering right in front of us. We say: “The government needs to do something. They need to help them.”
No. YOU need to help them. WE need to help them. As women, we are the mothers of society. It is a mother’s instinct to nurture and protect her children. As men, it is in your nature to provide for your children. So what are we, men and women, doing to help our women in need and our children who are suffering? These products are a basic good and not a luxury. We at Wingz, speak on behalf of all women in the world, in saying that there is nothing luxurious about having your period every month. Women in South Africa and all over the world must have access to these feminine hygiene products. Please join Wingz in fighting for and empowering our women.
