Our Xinyeketi learners got to spend day 3 in Cape Town on Table Mountain! We had a wonderful guide who told us about some of the history and biodiversity in the area. The conservation of the Fynbos biome is not too different to the principles these learners learn about when it comes to conservation of the wild animals in the Kruger National Park right next to their village.

A special thanks to for sponsoring some froyo and for access to see the African penguins on the Boulders Beach walkway!

Our learners are back home now but we are still buzzing from our time with them in Cape Town and at the Nature Positive Youth Conference

“If children don’t grow up knowing about nature and appreciating it, they will not understand it. And if they don’t understand it, they won’t protect it”. - David Attenborough

The plan was to take the children to see the ocean for the first time in their lives and take them for a dip later. Of course, that didn’t happen. They headed straight for the water with awe in their eyes, not even noticing the cold, asked about kelp and seashells and built sand castles.

The children of Xinyeketi Primary School in Mpumalanga had a great first day in Cape Town. .mm and are exposing children to new environments, showing them that they can dream and be part of a nature-positive future!

Stay tuned for day 2 and follow along to see the journey🫶

Conservation used to mean fences.

Fence the land. Remove the people. Put animals inside and try to keep the “bad guys” out.

For decades, that was the model.

And in many places, it left communities disconnected from the very landscapes their cultures once protected.

At Abundant Village, we believe the future of conservation looks different.
When communities have dignity, opportunity, and a stake in the health of their land, they become the protectors of it.

When people thrive, ecosystems recover.

So instead of separating people from nature, we’re working to repair the relationship between them. Because the wild doesn’t need more fences — it needs more guardians.

Throwback to 2024 — when one action sparked a movement.

With snaring a major threat in the area, we sponsored the satellite collaring of a hyena to better understand where animals were getting trapped and how we could respond faster. A practical step, driven by care, using technology in service of life.

What followed went far beyond wildlife protection. That moment helped birth one of our core programs — reconnecting children with their wildlife heritage through eco-clubs, and bringing indigenous trees back into schoolyards. A reminder that the seeds we plant today keep growing long after. 🌱

It’s wild what can happen in just one week.

When our partners arrived in Thorndale in 2024, they came with open hearts and willing hands. Seven days later, the foundations of a new kitchen were poured, a bare patch of land had transformed into a living permaculture garden, classrooms were repainted and insulated, and a mural burst colour and creativity back into the school.

But the biggest transformation wasn’t the buildings or the soil, it was the people. Partners, donors, volunteers… all shifted permanently by what community, culture, and connection can create when we work side by side.

Here’s to what dedicated minds and hearts can do in a week. Imagine what we can do in a year. 💛

When we rebuilt the school kitchen, we chose a material you can literally grow. Hempcrete! light, fire-resistant, insulated against the African sun, breathable, vapor-permeable… and usually reserved for the wealthy.

But these kids deserve the best.
And now the first h**p building in Mpumalanga stands right here in their community. Proof that regenerative design isn’t a luxury, it’s a birthright.

We pulled off h**pcrete, and we pulled off rammed earth. What other crazy renewable building materials should we try?

said it best.

“When we put up fences in our hearts, our minds, or our landscapes, we destroy things.”

For decades, the world has tried to fix collapse with charity alone. But real regeneration begins with connection… to land, to culture, to each other. Circles of Connection is our work of remembering: removing the fences, rebuilding relationships, and restoring the living systems that once held people and wildlife side by side.

This is the beginning of a new story in the Kruger-to-Canyons bioregion. One woven from youth leadership, indigenous knowledge, and a return to belonging.

The land holds memory and a story of healing.

This is the opening to The Land Remembers, our short film about regeneration, community, and the power of healing people and planet together.

Let the land remind us what’s possible when we choose abundance over scarcity. 🌱

True abundance starts from the ground up. What began as a visionary design for a Mandala Garden is now a thriving reality, rooted in community strength and sustainable practices.

Every hand that helped cultivate this land has sown seeds of change. This regenerative garden now yields a vibrant harvest of health, providing fresh, nutritious vegetables like cabbages that directly combat hunger.

Beyond feeding bodies, this project nourishes futures. It empowers women, educates children and fosters dreams that scarcity once stifled. We're creating more than just food. We are cultivating dignity and unlocking potential.

This entire movement is powered by compassion. Your support, even just one dollar at a time, makes this profound difference possible for countless lives.

Join us in building a world where everyone can dream. Link in bio!
