// Formula 1 in the Swartland? //
A private consortium, Blue Mountain Racing, has announced plans for a proposed R6.7 billion FIA Grade 1 motorsport circuit in the Swartland, with the ambition of hosting Formula 1 by 2031.
It’s important to note: this is still a proposal, not a confirmed Formula 1 race, but if the development moves forward, the potential impact could stretch far beyond the track itself.
For businesses in the Swartland and surrounding areas, a development of this scale could mean increased demand across hospitality, accommodation, restaurants, transport, tourism, retail, events, security and other local services.
And it’s not necessarily just about race weekend.
The proposed precinct is intended to operate year-round, with plans including conference and events facilities alongside the racing circuit. That could create opportunities for businesses to service visitors, corporate events, teams, suppliers and the wider tourism economy.
For local businesses, it raises an interesting question: Are you ready for what increased foot traffic, tourism and investment could mean for your business?
What do you think an F1-scale development could mean for the local business community?
A private consortium has announced plans to bring Formula 1 to the Western Cape by 2031. Blue Mountain Racing proposes building an FIA Grade 1 circuit on a 600-hectare site in the Swartland, about 60km north of Cape Town.
