Hello friends ....

Please forgive us for our silence....remember that Purple Kennel Project is the food for our soul that takes place during those rare gaps between our day job!

As many of you may know....my day job is in Tourism Marketing and Social media and the truth is we only used to run our project during the winter months.... as not only is that the time we get the most demand from our welfare partners due to the bad weather... but it is also the quiet time in tourism. However....we have been blessed, thanks to an incredible anonymous donor that we now have donations coming in all year around which means we can assist more welfare orgs.... however being a busy work time, we have less opportunities for admin!

Thanks to the aforementioned donor, we recently sent 25 Kennels to the Eastern Cape... 15 to ARK Animal Rescue - Kareedouw & Langkloof who are doing amazing Sterilization projects across the Eastern Cape and also 10 Kennels to The ELM Project in Tsitsikama area of the Garden route.
Thanks to who collected for Ark and also thanks to Monique who collected for ELM Project (Apologies my pics of that collection have disappeared 😭)

We also got some from Bianka of who does amazing outreach work in Kraaifontein and their impoverished suburbs. Several deserving woofers were so happy as per the attached pics to get a warm cosy Kennel.

Many thanks to our friends at R.A.D who do tireless Animal outreach work in the Grabouw and Botrivier areas ...for sharing these happy homings for 8 kennels recently donated to very deserving recipients.

Firstly Philip Fourie a HUGE thank you for sponsoring three of these desperately needed Kennels.... having 4 RAD rescues yourself, you were the first to answer their plea for more shelter for the woofers💜

Huge thanks as well to the Schröder Family, who were phenomenally generous during our Mandela month promo enabling us to gift Rad's furry friends in need with 5 warm Kennel hampers. They were able to really spread some love as the hampers included buckets of dog food, warm blankets that were given out to other dogs, as well as the veggies for the humans.... who were given to some of the RAD volunteers within the
community 💜

"IT'S ALWAYS SEEMS IMPOSSIBLE....UNTIL IT'S DONE" is of course one of Nelson Mandela's most famous quotes and boy was he on my mind this
morning.🚙

Micaela, a volunteer from Zola’s Paw Rescue in Kleinmond had kindly offered to collect the 10 kennels at Purple Kennel HQ this morning that we had allocated to this wonderful Animal welfare organization. 🚙

During our communication, I had asked what kind of a car she had, as although the Kennels do stack wonderfully inside each other, they are quite big and cumbersome, especially when 6 of the 10 are Jumbo size! "No worries" she said..."I have a Renault Sandero which is pretty big and there will be plenty of room with the seats down" I did not know this car, but she was full of confidence, so did not worry. 🚙

When she arrived this morning, my chin nearly hit the floor, it was a pretty small car from where I was standing ...and then Micaela broke the news that the back boot door did not open either, so all these kennels were going in through the side door! 😳😳🚙

What then took place during the best part of the next hour is pretty indescribable... imagine the most difficult game of Tetris, then times by 10... we lost count of how many times we loaded some, then took them out again to try another way ... but perseverance finally paid off ... we do not know how we did it ... but in that small car, we got 6 Jumbo kennels, 2 large and 2 medium!! 🚙

Whether she will get them OUT again... remains to be seen. A massive thank you though Micaela, not only for offering to collect, but for not taking NO for an answer... where there is a will, there is usually always a way and you found it ! 🚙

Thank you of course too, to the incredible donors attached that made these kennels even possible... your generously sponsored warm woofer homes are on their way to the needy dogs of Kleinmond and we cannot wait to see the happy furry recipients soon!! 💜💜💜

Thanks to the lovely team at ARK Animal Rescue - Kareedouw & Langkloof in the Eastern Cape who have been working really hard, coordinating a serious sterilization campaign in their local township areas the last couple of months, preventing literally hundreds of animals from breeding and contributing to the ever increasing cycle of over population, animal abuse and neglect .... STERILIZATION is the only way to try and combat these situations and ultimately improve the lives of our furry friends.

MASSIVE THANKS to one of our amazing anonymous donors, who has enabled us to assist them with some desperately needed kennels, for at least some of the newly sterilized woofers...and there are more on the way soon... as you can see from these videos, these warm homes are literally life changing for them.

Happy Wednesday folks,

Our hearts are full this morning, after receiving these from our friends at PetPals in the Strand area.

Buskie and his elderly girlfriends have shelter for the first time in their lives.... and are true examples of the kind of deserving woofers whose lives we try to change for the better, here at Purple Kennel Project thanks to the generosity of our supporters.

Thank you Yolanda and Dawid at Petpals for sharing their story below 💜:

"While doing our rounds in the community a lady approached us and asked if we could please have her dog neutered.

We visited the property to meet the dog and to see his living conditions. Buksie lived with 2 elderly female dogs. We noticed the dogs had bedding on the back veranda cement floor, but no kennel. They never ever had a kennel before.

We made an appointment to have Buksie neutered at Strand Animal Hospital. When we took him home we had a beautiful Purple kennel in the back of our vehicle for him and his two best friends to share. The dogs took turns inspecting the kennel and hunting for treats we had thrown inside. The one old girl was the first to go inside but hopped out after eating the treat. Buksie was the next to go inside, he admired the kennel and actually stayed a little longer. The dogs grew up together and are fond of each other. They will gladly cuddle and sleep together.

This kennel was kindly sponsored with love from Milo,Tessa and Fifi. You have made a huge difference in the lives and living conditions of Buksie and two very old girls. We really appreciate your generosity.

Happy Spring day South Africa 🌸🌸

It's certainly feeling like a blue sky, sunshine filled Spring day here at Purple Kennel HQ ... and being the first Tuesday of the month, it is also èthe day our chief kennel prepper James is here ...and hard at work with another 34 Kennels to get ready for departure later this week hopefully, all thanks to our dedicated and generous donors.

Leroy is the tripod quality assurance manager... checking that each Kennel is good enough for the township woofers .... he has not forgotten his previous life, when life was not quite so rosy. He also takes care of the guest relations side of things ... personally overseeing every collection.

Lola has no specific role.... except to look cute and find absolutely anything to bark at!

Vickie now living in the UK, used to be a volunteer for Tin Can Town when living in Cape Town. She was recently able to raise funds from afar to sponsor 8 kennels for her favourite welfare org. Here are just a few of the lucky pups!

Hello folks .... Unfortunately, like everything else at the moment, there has been a slight increase of R10 per kennel. We appreciate our suppliers keeping it to an absolute minimum.🙏

A reminder that we do NOT make one cent profit...and in the interest of transparency, we add R20 per kennel on the cost price, which we use to supply, colour print and laminate personal labels, as well as rivets to attach them and spray paint for branding.

Our next order will be going in on Monday 31st August, if you are in a position to sponsor a warm kennel for a needy woofer. With the weather hopefully getting warmer now... we still keep on going, as a kennel is not just about the warmth, for many dogs it's their 'safe space' in amongst the chaos of township life. Also the more we can get out there, the less soggy doggies next winter!

Hello friends.... we hope you had a restful weekend. Nothing like some to finish of the week!

Starting an animal welfare organization is not for sissies at the best of times, but especially if you have just moved to the area and do not know a whole lot of people!

This is exactly what Ria and her hubby Riaan did though, when moving to Chatsworth towards Malmsbury way, a few months ago. They could not ignore the plight of hungry, shelterless animals and humans .... hence Angels For People and Animals was born!

Like all welfare orgs though, Purple Kennel included, it's sometimes hard to feel like one is actually making any progress, when there is so many in need out there ... the good news, is that they are indeed truly making a difference to local residents both 2 and 4 legged thanks to their few supporters.

We were happy thanks as always to our generous donors that we were able to give them a leg up with 8 warm kennels. Thank you Ria and friends for ensuring they all went to such deserving homes!

Hello friends ....

August was an incredible month for Purple Kennel that saw another 48 more Kennels leave our HQ... thanks to several incredibly generous donors.... not forgetting those who also assist with the collection and transportation of course.... Thank you to everyone, you are all so appreciated!

Then this weekend .... it will be exactly 7 months since our darling tripod Leroy joined the Purple Kennel crew. What he lacks in the leg department....he certainly makes up for in personality and charm.

He just cannot wait to greet all the kennel collectors, partly because he cannot seem to get enough sloppy kisses in one day, as well as also having a passion for 'dog smelling' vehicles, which is usually the case dealing with animal welfare volunteers! He thinks nothing of jumping in... 3 legs and all. We would not change him for the world though 🤣
