It's been a very busy couple of weeks on the work side for me, but some how ....some way, the Purple Kennel wheel keeps turning in the background, thanks to many early mornings and late nights, as well as a huge help from James.

Leroy has been slightly over enthusiastic on the welfare partner 'customer relations' side of things and seems to want to give out free French kisses at every opportunity!

The great news is that the team managed to prep another 32 kennels last week for more woofers in need. A massive thanks to all the donors attached ....we could not do this without you!

20 Winter warmer woofer hampers headed off to our friends at Angel Project , who do so much good in the Matzikama area near Vredendal. Best of all, huge thanks to Top Crop Traders ...for once again collecting and delivering this precious cargo, saving Angel project time and money too

5 more winter hampers were collected by Lindie from Lindies animals in the impoverished areas of Kraaifontein .... she was the lucky one who got the kisses! πŸ’‹

Then 7 Kennels will be collected tomorrow by Bianca from working in Morning star and other areas too.

Watch this space for several pics soon!! Thank you again to the kind donors on the attached labels .... you are helping us to help those who cannot help themselves! πŸ’œπŸΎ

Emotional Purple thoughts ......

Today marks 7 months without Bruno. From the moment I rescued him, I always knew he was my soul dog.... different from any other, I ever had before. So it stands to reason, that his loss at age 15 years and 3 months, would hit me harder than any other too... and yet, I am somehow still blindsided on how easily the tears still flow, when a Bruno Facebook memory appears or I am reminded of his larger than life character.

Have any of you been lucky enough to experience this kind of relationship....followed by a loss that was much harder to bear than others?

Sharing is caring and it certainly helps me just knowing that no doubt many of you can relate to my words.

I would love you to share a pic of YOUR soul dog in the comments and a bit of their story! πŸ’œπŸ’œ

Our friends at Angel Project in the Matzikama area do much with so little when it comes to their animal outreach work in some of the most impoverished areas of the Western Cape.... a place where, sadly so much animal cruelty exists and there is not an SPCA within a 4 hour drive.

One of the ONLY ways to stop the ever increasing cycle of animal abuse, neglect and over population is to STERLIZE! A dog that is not breeding is no longer contributing to the problem.

When we heard that the incredible ladies running this organization had been given a opportunity for a mass sterilization project thanks to Vetsol ... we decided to try and support them with sending as many Kennels as possible.... over the last couple of months thanks to our generous donors, they have received 36 Kennels.

As if their challenges were not already enough....the project was booked for the period during the recent floods, but where there is a will... there is somehow a way, and they still made a plan to sterilize and provide the shelter for as many animals as possible in the small West coast towns of Doringbaai and Pappendorp ....see the attached pics.

We salute you ladies and are proud to partner with such animal warriors. πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

Thank you Yolanda at PetPals in the Strand area for this lovely happy homing story and for always finding the most deserving recipients for our Kennels....πŸ’œπŸ˜

"Mina was the chosen one to receive a brand new Purple Kennel. Her owner is an elderly lady, she looks after her two dogs as best as possible.

The dogs sleep in a partially enclosed room. Mina slept in a crate that was way too small for her. She had never had a kennel before and was a little hesitant to go inside in the beginning. Mina soon adjusted and now absolutely adores her warm kennel.

On behalf of PetPals we would like to express our thanks and appreciation to the anonymous animal lover who sponsored this kennel with love. You have made a huge difference in the life of a less fortunate dog.

Thank you Purple Kennel Project for allocating this kennel to PetPals for contribution as well as your ongoing support."

Morning folks.... Happy Sunday

🐾I am so very proud of my team for their super productive last week that saw another 65 kennels leave Purple Kennel HQ destined for soggy doggies out there.

🐾This week was a great example of how it really does take a village .... as well as our incredibly generous donors of course, huge gratitude goes to those who take time to assist with collections, as well as the welfare orgs who take great effort in ensuring the Kennels end up in the right places.

🐾Please grab a cup of coffee and be sure to read all the captions for details of who has contributed and the wonderful people who give up their time behind the scenes!

If this post does not warm up your chilly Sunday...nothing will ! πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ’œ

Good morning friends.... CALLING FOR ANYONE HEADING TO THE OVERBERG THIS WEEKEND, that has a large bakkie or van and could possibly drop off 15 generously donated warm Kennels complete with warm blankets and buckets of food in KLEIMOND?

We are thrilled to be able to send 15 desperately needed Kennels to Laurika Stander and team at Zola's Paw Project .They do such amazing outreach work in the Kleimond area, with so little and with Winter already on our doorstep, the temperatures are going in one direction!

The Kennels are about 90cm in length, 70cm wide ...but the best thing is, they stack beautifully all inside each other. So all 15 in the pile is 1.4m in height, but would travel better in two piles. Will need to be tied on if open bakkie.

They would need to be collected from Purple Kennel HQ in Tableview.

With over 3500 followers, we are hoping that someone somewhere is in the mood for a good turn.... that as well as getting shelter to our furry friends, will save Zolas Paw Project from having to use their own funds on a courier.

PLEASE WHATSAPP SAM on 082 876 2072 if you can help as an individual or are perhaps a company travelling that way or even a courier with some probono free space! πŸ™πŸ™

At the very least .... please SHARE

Many thanks πŸ’œ

A sloppy Purple love story.... πŸ’œ

They say Elephants never forget ..... but those working in welfare, will tell you that any rescue dog will always remember those who saved them!

For those not in the know....Almost four months ago, Leroy, my special tripawd rescue, formerly called Lucky, joined our family and the Purple Kennel team, bringing a shining light back into the home after the sad loss of our beloved 15-year-old Bruno.

Leroy was rescued from one of the most impoverished areas of Atlantis, last July, where Kerry from The WOW Project and her volunteers, do much needed outreach work for the animals. Leroy’s family had mentioned to Kerry that his leg was not right, she took one look and rushed him to her vet, suspecting he had been hit by a car. Despite two failed surgeries, amputation was unfortunately the last option, but Leroy adapted amazingly.

His original family did not want him back, as were worried the kids would throw stones at this now supposedly 'ugly dog'. Like many others before him, he happily joined the pack at 'Kerry's Inn'...at least until I bonded with him on a few beach walks. Despite having only 3 legs, he was my front runner from the start...

He has settled in amazingly....loves his older and sometimes feisty scottie sister Lola, his morning walks on the local vlei and takes his role at Purple Kennel very seriously! He had not seen Kerry though since he left..... until today!

She came to collect some Kennels ... he was already whining when he recognized her car.... the rest, is borderline x-***ed, but ask you not to judge his sloppy french kissing technique, or Kerry for being such a willing participant!! 🀣🀣

It was simply love and gratitude in its purest form... for the person, who had quite simply changed his life ....his world, by given him a chance that so many others do not get... dogs do not forget that!

I was slightly worried for a moment that he might think he was going back with her... but no, he knows that this is now his home, bum in butter and all.... but will remain ever grateful to Kerry, for not giving up on him. πŸ₯°

Morning folks ...

A few weeks ago, we sent some warm kennels off to Karoo Animal Protection Society - KAPS in Barrydale, thanks to the generosity of some of our regular donors, Connie Hutton, Lindsay von Bach and the Ladies Lunch group. Thank you for always caring! πŸ’œ

Many thanks also to Angela and Bobby from the local Route 62 Pet Cafe & Off Lead Dog Park there, who volunteer for the welfare org and found the very deserving candidates for these kennels. These woofers were so grateful especially given the recent wet weather.

Stay warm this weekend and remember to pop in and support the Pet Cafe when next heading along route 62! πŸ’œ

More happy stories coming soon! πŸ’œ

Howszit Purple Kennel friends, just when you thought we had fallen off the planet.... we are here to prove otherwise!

The reality is that I work in tourism for my day job and this time of year is called 'silly season' for good reason, quite simply....there are not enough hours in the day!

The great news is that our Kennels have still been going out and this means we have a backlog of awesome Happy homing pics ....but am determined to showcase them all, before the year is out.

Here are some of the recent lucky recipients in the Matzikama area...in the most Northern end of the Western Cape, a good 3.5 hours drive up the West coast.... a place where there is no SPCA within 4 hours drive ... only one reliable vet and a whole of of poverty and neglected in terms of animal welfare.

Janine and her small support team at Angel Project do so much with so little.... and are so grateful for every single kennel we can send them as they have a list so long of animals with no shelter. Having recently been blessed with 200 sponsored sterilizations in the area, she is hoping this will be a game changer for the ever-increasing cycle of over population, which ultimately leads to neglect and abuse and wants to thank the owners for being responsible by gifting their woofers with a warm kennel.

We can only do this with YOUR HELP and want to once again thank everyone who has supported us this year, especially our several regular donors as together you are helping us to help organizations like this one.

Watch this space ....more pics coming soon, and don't forget to read the full stories in the
captions πŸ™πŸ’œ
