Last night at Scouts, we had Virgil van der Horst join us to give a presentation on firefighting as part of Megan’s Springbok advancement. 🔥

The Scouts had a great time and each got the chance to use a fire extinguisher.

Well done to Megan for her planning and coordination and a huge thank you to Virgil for sharing his knowledge with us!

1st Meadowridge Meerkats recently worked on our Nature badge. Our group theme for Term 2 is Nature Conservation.

We decided to make tortoises out of clay, using recycled egg boxes to help form stable legs so that they could go home and brighten up everyone's home.

The Meerkats absolutely loved this craft activity. We also took the opportunity to teach them about primary colors and how to mix them to make secondary colors.

What a "wild" time was had! 🐢

A sneak peek into our Springboks’ journeys ⚜️

Last weekend, Anastasia took on her Springbok expedition - leading four scouts through an unforgettable cycling and hiking adventure in Cape Point 🚴‍♀️⛰️

This weekend, Megan celebrated her Springbok Banquet with an epic Pirates of the Caribbean-themed evening 🏴‍☠️⚓

Two incredible milestones, two unforgettable journeys.

This past weekend, 1st Meadowridge took part in the Kontiki competition, and while results are always exciting, what stood out most was the incredible sense of teamwork and community throughout the event.

From the many hours of preparation behind the scenes leading up to the weekend, to our young leaders stepping up with confidence on the day, every Scout, parent, and supporter played a part in making it a success. It was a true reminder of how capable we are when we work together.

Even with challenging weather testing our resilience, spirits stayed high and determination never faded.

We are proud not just of what we achieved, but of how we achieved it — with teamwork, perseverance, and community at the heart of it all.

Well done, 1st Meadowridge!

On Saturday 14th March 1st Meadowridge Scout Group hosted the Two Oceans District Muddy Meerkat event. This event consists of 6 activity bases, and 2 fun crossover bases, teaching the Meerkats to challenge themselves, learn new skills and most importantly have fun though messy outdoor play!
The bases consisted of: apple bobbing, gladiator sword fight on a balance beam, fishing grub out of a murky slime pool, the old school chocolate game, a muddy puddle limbo, and dodging an onslaught of soaked sponges.
The crossover bases were the famous tarp slip 'n slide, and the leopard crawl tunnel. The laughter, screeching and general buzz in the air was tangible!
During our snack break, yummy hotdogs, crisps and cold drinks were served, and the Cub Pack ran an awesome cake sale table to raise funds for our new community project, Project Bloom.

The day was a huge success and everyone got to go home with a snazzy Muddy Meerkat 2026 badge.

Only one question was left unanswered... Who had more fun???? The Meerkats, their parents or the Scouters & MI's??

If you think you know the answer, hit the comment button below!

Bring on Muddy Meerkat 2027! 😉💜

Our Meerkats got to go camping this past weekend, and what a blast was had!
Denboree 2025 was an absolute hit, with 7 Dens from the Two Oceans District taking part in a joint family camp.
The theme was Dinosaurs, and there was a jam-packed program which included activities like the Dino Rangers game, making their own dinosaur fossils with macaroni, a Dino Detective scavenger hunt, making their own lanterns and dinosaur cave painting shirts, a Meerkat campfire followed by the family braai with 'smoreos' for desert, and even a night walk to go scorpion hunting with our blue light torches!
The next morning we made flapjacks for breakfast, followed by Boere Sport races and games, and finished off the weekend with our famous Meerkat Song.
Many new skills were learnt, a whole lot of badges were earned, and loads of new friendships were made.
Definitely the highlight of the year!
