ILB provides educational support, skills development and community development programmes in Cape Town and Tarkastad.🇿🇦

The ultimate mission of ILB is to transform the township of Crossroads and surrounding townships, from being the murder capitals and high crime rating townships to being a place of peace, a place where kids have access to quality education, and a place where the out of school youth are equipped with soft and hard skills. The tools of transformation in this vision is education, skills development and employment creation for the youth and adults of Crossroads and its neighbouring townships. The inspiration behind the founding of Ikamva Labantwana Bethu was due to the sad death of the Founder’s brother, Julian Mxhonywa, who was murdered on the streets of Crossroads Township on 16 December 2003, during the Public Day of Reconciliation. Instead of Siviwe Dlukwana turning his back on the community, he saw an opportunity and a vision - to change the community of Crossroads and other similar communities for the better.

🇿🇦 Happy Heritage Day! 🇿🇦

From Tarkastad to Nyanga, we celebrated Heritage Day in the most beautiful way! What a joy it was to honour our rich and diverse cultures through marimba performances, traditional dances, poetry, gumboot dancing, acting, and many other incredible displays of talent. ❤️

A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated facilitators who worked tirelessly to ensure every detail was well planned and beautifully executed, as well as our cooks for preparing the delicious traditional meals enjoyed by all.

To our amazing learners – thank you for bringing confidence, enthusiasm, and energy to every performance. You made us proud!
We also extend our sincere gratitude to all the parents who joined us and supported their children on this special day.

A special thank you to our valued stakeholder, The Etafeni Centre, for celebrating with us and helping make the day even more meaningful.

Plan A turned into Plan B, showing us true resilience in action! 💡💪

ILB was proud to host the Youth Development Provincial Forum on 9–10 September 2026, bringing together government and youth partners to unlock opportunities for young people.

When local protests forced a last-minute shift from Philippi Village to Beautiful Gate on day one, everyone adapted without missing a beat before we returned on day two. That seamless move captured the exact spirit of the forum: adapt, collaborate, and keep moving forward together.

A massive thank you to the Department of Social Development, Beautiful Gate, Philippi Village, and all our partners for making this gathering a success.

Our Youth Café Fun Walk: Tarkastad Karoo Walk was amazing!

Together, our youth and high school lounge learners took on the beautiful Karoo trail and participated in an exciting lineup of activities:

🥾 Hiking & Reflection – Stepping into nature and taking time to connect and reflect.

🧘 Meditation – Finding mindfulness, peace, and focus in the quiet stillness of nature.

📖 Storytelling – Sharing inspiring stories and experiences under the open sky.

🤝 Team Challenges – Building leadership, trust, and strong community bonds.

On today's programme, we celebrated International Literacy Day with a Spelling Bee Competition for learners from Grade 3 to Grade 7 at Hlengisa Primary School. It was a meaningful occasion that highlighted the importance of reading, writing, understanding, and lifelong learning, especially for children. The day served as a reminder that literacy is a fundamental human right and an essential skill for success in life. 😇📚

💖 Girls Empowerment at Sikelela Primary 💖

As part of our Girls Empowerment Programme at Sikelela Primary, we explored the topic of Communication.

Through this session, we aim to equip learners with the skills to communicate clearly and respectfully, listen actively, express their thoughts and feelings confidently, and build positive relationships with others.

Strong communication skills empower young girls to navigate challenges, strengthen connections, and contribute positively at school, at home, and within their communities.

We are proud to create safe spaces where girls in our communities can develop their confidence, find their voices, and grow into future leaders.

✨A Week of Reflection, Collaboration, and Visioning for the Future ✨

Our recent strategic planning session held in Makhanda, Eastern Cape with the Ikamva Labantwana Bethu leadership team and Board was far more than a strategy workshop. It was an opportunity to pause, reflect on our journey, celebrate our progress, and collectively shape the future of our organisation.

Together, we co-created a bold four-year strategic roadmap that will strengthen our people, systems, fundraising efforts, and leadership capacity. This shared vision will enable us to deepen our impact and continue creating meaningful opportunities for children, families, and communities.
