Ikamva Labantwana

Ikamva Labantwana ILB provides educational support, skills development and community development programmes in Cape Town and Tarkastad.🇿🇦

The ultimate mission of ILB is to transform the township of Crossroads and surrounding townships, from being the murder capitals and high crime rating townships to being a place of peace, a place where kids have access to quality education, and a place where the out of school youth are equipped with soft and hard skills. The tools of transformation in this vision is education, skills development a

nd employment creation for the youth and adults of Crossroads and its neighbouring townships. The inspiration behind the founding of Ikamva Labantwana Bethu was due to the sad death of the Founder’s brother, Julian Mxhonywa, who was murdered on the streets of Crossroads Township on 16 December 2003, during the Public Day of Reconciliation. Instead of Siviwe Dlukwana turning his back on the community, he saw an opportunity and a vision - to change the community of Crossroads and other similar communities for the better.

✨A Week of Reflection, Collaboration, and Visioning for the Future ✨

Our recent strategic planning session held in Makhanda, Eastern Cape with the Ikamva Labantwana Bethu leadership team and Board was far more than a strategy workshop. It was an opportunity to pause, reflect on our journey, celebrate our progress, and collectively shape the future of our organisation.

Together, we co-created a bold four-year strategic roadmap that will strengthen our people, systems, fundraising efforts, and leadership capacity. This shared vision will enable us to deepen our impact and continue creating meaningful opportunities for children, families, and communities.

A special thank you to Issroff Family Foundation for their generous funding and support, which made this important process possible. Your investment in our organisational growth and sustainability strengthens our ability to create meaningful change and advance our mission.

We are excited about the road ahead and committed to advancing our mission and vision with purpose, passion, and excellence.

Happy Women’s Day, South Africa!

Today, we honour the courage, strength and contribution of women across our country.

As we mark 70 years since the historic 1956 Women’s March, we are reminded of the power of women’s voices, leadership and resilience.

We celebrate the women who nurture, guide, lead and uplift our children, families and communities every day.

May we continue working towards a future where every woman and girl is valued, protected and empowered to thrive.

As we kick off Week 1 of our Youth Café Programme Cohort 3, our participants are engaging in meaningful conversations about Anxiety.

Anxiety is something many young people experience, yet it is often misunderstood. Through today's session, our participants are learning what anxiety is, how it can affect our thoughts, emotions, and daily lives, as well as healthy ways to cope with it and support our peers and friends who may be experiencing it.

Together, we're creating safe spaces for learning, growth, and well-being.

Thank You for Supporting Our Mandela Day Community Soup Kitchen 🙏

We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to everyone who supported our Mandela Day Community Soup Kitchen initiative.

Thanks to your generosity and commitment, we were able to bring warmth, nourishment, and dignity to older persons and people living with disabilities in our community at Mahobe Recreational Park.

Together, we prepared and distributed:
✅ 100 fully nourished packed cooked lunch meals – all 100 meals were served.
✅ Over 275 cups of soup served to community members.

Seeing the smiles and gratitude of those we served reminded us of the true spirit of Mandela Day – making a meaningful difference in the lives of others through service and compassion.

We sincerely thank our donors, volunteers, partners, and community members who contributed their time, resources, and support to make this initiative a success. Your kindness helped us reach those who needed it most.
Together, we are building a caring and united community.

During the holiday programme, we had the pleasure of hosting Mrs Mrubata, a social worker from Crossroads Clinic 😊. She facilitated an engaging and informative session on mental health, helping children understand the social factors that can influence their emotional and psychological well-being.

The discussion highlighted how aspects such as their environment, relationships, challenges at home, and access to support can impact their mental health. Children were encouraged to identify difficulties they may encounter and were equipped with positive coping strategies, including seeking help, building healthy support networks, and developing resilience.

It was a meaningful and empowering session that raised awareness about mental health and reinforced the importance of creating safe, supportive environments where children can thrive.

Exciting progress at the Tarkastad Educational Centre! 🇿🇦💫

Our building is finally starting to take shape, bringing us one step closer to realizing our vision of creating quality educational opportunities for our community.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our supporters, architects, and construction teams whose dedication and commitment have made this milestone possible.

We are also delighted to announce that additional funding has been secured, enabling us to begin construction of a second adjacent building from the ground up. This new development will include three additional classrooms, a conference hall, and two shop outlets, further expanding our capacity and impact.

Thank you to everyone who continues to believe in and support this journey. Together, we are building more than just structures-we are building a brighter future.
