Ikamva Labantwana

Ikamva Labantwana ILB provides educational support, skills development and community development programmes in Cape Town and Tarkastad.🇿🇦

The ultimate mission of ILB is to transform the township of Crossroads and surrounding townships, from being the murder capitals and high crime rating townships to being a place of peace, a place where kids have access to quality education, and a place where the out of school youth are equipped with soft and hard skills. The tools of transformation in this vision is education, skills development a

nd employment creation for the youth and adults of Crossroads and its neighbouring townships. The inspiration behind the founding of Ikamva Labantwana Bethu was due to the sad death of the Founder’s brother, Julian Mxhonywa, who was murdered on the streets of Crossroads Township on 16 December 2003, during the Public Day of Reconciliation. Instead of Siviwe Dlukwana turning his back on the community, he saw an opportunity and a vision - to change the community of Crossroads and other similar communities for the better.

Today marked a powerful close to Child Protection Week, as students from all ILB branches came together in meaningful dialogue and made firm commitments to protecting every child. The vibrant marimba performance was a fitting signature to the day—bringing energy, unity, and celebration to our shared commitment.

Thank you to our partners, dedicated staff, teachers, and community members for standing with us. Child protection doesn’t end today—it lives on in all we do. Ayeye!!

We are delighted to welcome a new cohort of interns from Goldsmiths, University of London to our organisation! 🎓🤝

Every child deserves to feel safe, heard and supported.

At Ikamva Labantwana Bethu, we believe safe spaces are built through trust, care, strong relationships and a shared commitment to protecting every child’s wellbeing.

This Child Protection Week, we are reminded that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

🌍💛Happy Africa Day!

Today, we stood together in celebration of the beauty, strength, and unity of our continent. Across the Western Cape and Eastern Cape, our Africa Day festivities brought cultures from Angola, Mozambique, Botswana, Somalia, and Algeria to life.

Learners and staff embraced the day with pride and excitement — showcasing traditions, learning from one another, and celebrating Africa’s incredible diversity. The energy was vibrant, the spirit was unifying, and the joy was unforgettable.

A heartfelt thank you to every facilitator, participant, and supporter who made this day possible. Your dedication and teamwork remind us that Africa’s greatest strength lies in its people.

A Breath Above the Everyday 🌄

A group of inspiring young people from Tarkastad stepped away from their daily routines and into the beauty of the Tarka Mountains.

It wasn’t just an outing — it was a moment to pause. To breathe deeply. To reflect.

Surrounded by nature, laughter echoed across the hills, stories were shared, and quiet moments allowed each person to reconnect with themselves and each other. The mountains offered more than just stunning views — they gave space for renewal, clarity, and inspiration.

Sometimes, all we need is a step away from the familiar to remember our strength and purpose.

The youth returned not only refreshed but re-inspired — ready to continue their journeys with new energy and perspective.

Here’s to more moments of reflection, growth, and connection.

A special congratulations to the five parents who were elected to serve on the Tarkastad Parents Governing Body. Your leadership and willingness to serve are deeply appreciated!

Parents play a vital role in the success of our work, and we are truly grateful for your commitment, involvement, and unwavering support. Together, we are building a stronger future for our learners.

Empowering the Next Generation of Entrepreneurs!

Our Entrepreneurship Course is in full swing, and the energy from our young aspiring entrepreneurs is nothing short of inspiring! 🚀

Participants are diving into practical skills—from refining their business ideas and learning financial basics to building confidence in pitching and problem-solving. What makes this journey special is the creativity, resilience, and passion these young people bring as they explore new opportunities for their futures.

Through mentorship, peer learning, and hands-on activities, they are not just learning how to start businesses—they are growing as leaders, innovators, and changemakers in their communities.

We are incredibly proud to walk alongside them as they turn their ideas into action and build a brighter future.

Today, through meaningful collaboration, we engaged Grade 8 learners at St George’s Grammar School in a powerful substance abuse awareness session.

In a safe and interactive space, learners reflected on the Circle of Courage—exploring belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity—and how these values connect to making positive, healthy choices.

By linking these principles to real-life challenges, learners were empowered with practical strategies to avoid substance use and encouraged to become positive influencers among their peers. Together, we’re equipping young people to make informed decisions and build a healthier, more supportive school community. 💙
