On 18 October 2026, Grand Master Song and Duncan Smith, the candidate for Chongkwanjang (Head Master) of the South African Association, held a meeting at a hotel in Cape Town.

During the meeting, they shared a wide range of opinions on the development of the association and decided on important agendas, including strengthening the association's regulations and systems, paying more attention to nurturing Sabeoms, preparing the 2027 association plans, ensuring large participation in the Haidong Gumdo World Championships scheduled to be held in Gyeongju in July 2028, and holding monthly meetings starting from January 2027 for major Jidojas in the African region of the AMHA Headquarters, presided over by the new Secretary, Jose D'Almeida, who is the candidate for Chongkwanjang (Head Master) of the Mozambique Association.

We wish all the best for the smooth progress of the association's development plans, which include expanding the horizon of Haidong Gumdo from Africa to the Middle East in 2027.

AFRICAN HAIDONG GUMDO LEADERS GATHER IN CAPE TOWN TO SHAPE THE FUTURE OF THE ASSOCIATION

From 3 September to 6 September 2026, the African Haidong Gumdo Major Jidoja Seminar and Regular Black Belt Dan Test were held in Cape Town, South Africa.

The seminar was attended by the Chairmen of the Mozambique and South African Associations, Chongkwanjang candidates from major African national associations, Dojang Jidojas, Responsible Managers, and Sabeom candidates.

The major Jidojas of African Haidong Gumdo shared various insights to reorganise organisations, regulations, and systems for each country, preparing for the operation of independent national associations. They also made a firm commitment to contribute to the development of Haidong Gumdo by training and sweating together at a higher level.

In particular, Ms Nidia D'Almeida, a lawyer and the Chairman of the Mozambique Association, took time out of her busy schedule to travel from Maputo to Cape Town to grace the occasion, and she offered many valuable opinions for the advancement of Haidong Gumdo. In addition, she exchanged greetings and gifts with Mr Changwon Cho, a businessman and the Chairman of the South African Association, and they agreed to work together and cooperate for the advancement of African Haidong Gumdo. Furthermore, during the Dan Test, a special ceremony was held where the Mozambique, South Africa, and Zimbabwe Associations presented a special gift to Grand Master Song and his wife to express their deep respect and gratitude.

Wishing for the infinite growth of African Haidong Gumdo as it continues to silently expand its territory step by step, we envision a magnificent future ahead.

2026, 14th HAIDONG GUMDO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS- Ⅱ

16 to 31 July 2026, the officials and players of the Botswana Haidong Gumdo Association successfully represented the African continent at the prestigious 14th Haidong Gumdo World Championships.

Throughout their visit to South Korea, which included participating in the world championships, the Botswana delegation engaged in high-level cultural exchange, fostering deep international friendships with practitioners from across the globe.

The tournament provided a vital platform for the team to acquire advanced martial arts techniques and valuable operational expertise, reinforcing their commitment to driving the sustainable growth of the Botswana Haidong Gumdo Association, which they envision as the cornerstone for the broader development of Haidong Gumdo across the entire African continent.

In addition to their athletic pursuits, delegates observed South Korea’s advanced socioeconomic infrastructure firsthand. Inspired by this modern development and the core tenets of martial arts philosophy, leadership announced plans to integrate the resilient spirit of Haidong Gumdo into Botswana's educational framework, focusing on character building and the cultivation of future national leaders.

Looking forward, the global martial arts community sets its sights on 2028. The next Haidong Gumdo World Championships will be hosted in Gyeongju, South Korea—a historic city preserving a millennium of ancient cultural heritage. A high turnout of instructors and trainees from across Africa is anticipated to further strengthen continental representation.
