🌸 Still Waiting... 🌸

Beautiful Daisy has been waiting for her forever family since 17 November 2024. That's over a year and a half of patiently watching other cats find homes while she continues to wait for her turn.

Despite the long wait, Daisy remains as loving, gentle and affectionate as ever. She adores attention, gets along wonderfully with other cats, and has so much love to give. She is currently thriving in a loving foster home, where her sweet nature shines through every day.

Surely it's Daisy's turn to find the family she's been dreaming of.

🧡 A Close Call for Biscuits 🧡

Biscuits was rushed to our clinic after she stopped eating, started vomiting, and became very unwell. Although her X-rays appeared clear, Dr Brian suspected something was wrong and made the decision to perform exploratory surgery.

During surgery, our team discovered a linear foreign body - strands of plastic netting - which had become lodged in her digestive tract and caused a life-threatening intussusception (where one section of the intestine slides into another).

Thankfully, the foreign body was successfully removed, the intussusception corrected, and Biscuits is now recovering beautifully. 🐾

A huge thank you to Dr Brian, Mikaela, Lazola and the rest of our dedicated team for giving Biscuits a second chance. ❤️

For two years, Bandit waited. 🐾

He arrived at Mdzananda as a tiny puppy with his mom and siblings after their family could no longer afford to care for them. One by one, his siblings were adopted. Even his mom found a home. But Bandit stayed behind, watching others leave while he patiently waited for someone to choose him.

Then, something special happened. ❤️

The Somerset West Night Shelter was looking for a new therapy dog after losing their two beloved resident companions to old age. Bandit went for a meet-and-greet, and although he was a little unsure at first, it didn’t take long before he curled up next to someone, soaked up the love, and made himself at home.

Today, Bandit spends his days playing with children, cuddling residents, and bringing comfort to families going through difficult times. He has two beds of his own, lots of toys and treats, endless affection… and, at last, a place where he belongs.

After two years of waiting, Bandit didn’t just find a forever home. He found his purpose. 🥹

While we’re celebrating his happy ending, many other dogs and cats at Mdzananda are still waiting for theirs. If you’ve been thinking about adopting or fostering, now is the perfect time. You might just change a life - and find your own Bandit.

We need your help to change 1000 more lives

The Mdzananda Animal Clinic and Shelter in Khayelitsha in partnership with Kyron, EnviroVet CVC , Biofarm and MCP are on a mission to sterilise 1000 pets and rescues - on top of our usual sterilisations.

But we’re R200 000 short to reach this goal.

We need 1000 people to sponsor one sterilisation each at R200.

The veterinarian costs have been sponsored by the amazing Iris Hollywood Foundation and your R200 will cover all medication and consumables used in a procedure.

A really heartwarming reason to smile. ❤️

A year ago, little Lina was found dumped at our gate inside a yellow plastic bag. She was frightened, hungry, and all alone.

We welcomed her into our shelter family, showering her with love, cuddles, good food, and plenty of walks. Before long, Lina's tail was wagging, her confidence was growing, and she blossomed into a beautiful young pup.

After spending a few months patiently waiting at our shelter, Lina's perfect match finally came along. A wonderful lady saw Lina's story on Facebook, and the photo of her sitting in that yellow plastic bag touched her heart. She knew she had to meet her.

From their very first meeting, it was clear that something special was happening - and the rest is history.

Lina joined her new family and has been adored ever since. Recently, we received the sweetest update: they celebrated Lina's one-year gotcha day! 🥳🐾

The celebration took place at a local dog park with some of Lina's furry friends. There were special doggy treats, party packs, and lots of fun. As always, Lina was completely spoilt rotten!

Stories like Lina's remind us why we do what we do. From being abandoned in a plastic bag to celebrating her first gotcha day surrounded by love, Lina truly got the happily-ever-after she deserved. ❤️

We have completely run out of dog food and are urgently appealing to the public for assistance. Every day, hundreds of hungry paws rely on us for their meals, and right now our food storage is empty.

At Mdzananda Animal Clinic, our Programmes Coordinator, Mneno, has been hard at work delivering brand new kennels to families in Khayelitsha.

These families are carefully selected based on clear welfare criteria: all dogs must be sterilised, fully vaccinated, and well cared for. While these households are deeply committed to their animals’ wellbeing, many simply do not have the resources to provide adequate shelter.

In many of these homes, you can see the incredible effort owners have already made to protect their dogs, often building makeshift shelters from whatever materials they can find. With support from Mneno, our team, and the generosity of our donors, these dogs are now receiving safe, sturdy kennels that offer proper protection from the elements.

This work is about more than shelter alone - it is about dignity, comfort, and recognising the love that already exists between people and their pets, and strengthening it where help is needed most.

🐾 Meet Oreo! 🐾

Oreo recently visited our clinic for his vaccinations, deworming and tick and flea treatment. In a few months, he'll be back to be neutered too!

We are so grateful to Oreo's loving and responsible owners who are doing everything they can to keep him healthy, safe and happy. ❤️

Unfortunately, many families in our community struggle to afford essential veterinary care for their beloved pets.
