The prophet Haggai was speaking to the Israelites who had returned to Jerusalem after being exiled in Babylon.
They had been given the opportunity to rebuild the Temple of the LORD. The foundation had been laid, but the work eventually stopped because of opposition, discouragement, and other pressures.
Meanwhile, the people had started focusing on their own houses, comfort and personal lives.
So God asks them:
“Why are you living in luxurious houses while my house lies in ruins?”
God wasn’t condemning them simply for having houses or enjoying provision. The issue was priority.
They had essentially said, “We’ll take care of God’s house later.”
And God was saying, “Look at where your attention has gone.”
The heart should always be 🤎:
Put God back at the centre. Rebuild what He has called you to rebuild. And trust Him with everything else
