African Institute for Migrant Workers (AIMW) It is a Cape Town Based NGO that protects rights of migrant workers in South Africa in general and Cape Town in particular.

The African Institute for Migrant Workers (AIMW) is a non-profit organisation involved in research and the promotion, training and advocacy of migrant workers’ rights in the work place, in line with international human rights norms. The organisation is also committed to assisting migrant workers and members of their families to integrate into their adopted communities. The primary goal of AIMW is

to tap into the expertise and skills at its disposal to promote and protect the rights (including labour rights) of migrant workers in South Africa and other African countries. Mission
In order to achieve this vision, AIMW will undertake research and actions focused on the promotion and advocacy of migrant workers’ rights in the work place according to international human rights norms. To this end, its subsidiary objectives shall be:

To liaise with international organisations, governmental and inter-governmental bodies concerning service provision to and policy relevant to migrant workers;

To facilitate the integration of migrant workers into the South African society;

To influence and contribute to the formation and development of migrant workers related legislation and best practices;
To monitor the treatment and conditions of migrant workers

To strengthen migrant workers’ rights in South Africa and internationally. Vision

The AIMW vision is to promote and protect human rights (including labour rights) of migrant workers.

1. Services Delivered

AIMW Works towards eradicating human rights violations against migrant, refugees and other vulnerable workers endure through mainstreaming effective, liberal legislation, training, advocacy, campaign, workshops and seminars.

2.1 The key areas of work are:

• Lobbying and advocacy for policies and legislation that promote equality and protect the rights of vulnerable workers;
• To facilitate the integration of migrant and refugees workers into South African other African states through education based on social cohesion;

• To influence and contribute to the formation and development of migrant workers related legislation and best practices;

• Train migrant and vulnerable workers about their rights, with a focus on human rights and labour rights

• Support migrant and other vulnerable workers ‘claim to appropriate forums;

• Facilitate migrant, refugees and other vulnerable workers to access to their socio-economic rights such as the rights to education, sufficient food, housing, health care services, as well as the benefices of Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), Compensation fund, leave ….

• Research on general issues related migration, human rights and labour rights.
