Gold once built cities, created jobs and left legends across South Africa. Now, in a fast-changing world economy, the country must decide whether it still wants to lead or let others define its future.

Few countries have a history with gold as deep as South Africa’s. From the rush that gave birth to Johannesburg to decades of export strength, gold shaped how the world saw this nation.

However, mine operations have aged, costs have risen and global competition has intensified. The question now isn’t just whether the country can produce more gold, it’s whether it can transform its mining legacy into a forward-looking economic advantage.
From Great Heights to Ground Realities

There was a time when South Africa set the global gold price by sheer output. The mines in Gauteng and the Free State didn’t just dig for profit; they dug an identity. Today, that identity feels fragile. Mining towns have grown quieter and shafts that once roared with life are closing faster than they can be replaced.

Nevertheless, the resource beneath South Africa has not diminished in lustre. Indeed, the reserves are not as accessible as they once were, but advanced technology, newer mining techniques and more agile financial means could unearth what has been missed in the past.

The difficulty is not geology, it is conviction. South Africa needs to convince itself that it can change and modernise, instead of merely surviving. Gold mining can be transformed, not just conserved.

Why Gold Still Matters.

I have no doubt that South African Government are funded by Iran , terrorist groups and criminals. Politicians in the government are protecting criminals. The Presidency of the Republic of South Africa don't care about South Africans .

South Africa’s unemployment crisis has been laid bare before parliament’s portfolio committee on employment and labour, with illegal immigration emerging as a contributing factor to joblessness among citizens, according to presentations made before the committee on Wednesday.

The committee heard that foreign-born nationals enjoy significantly higher employment absorption rates than South African-born citizens, with the gap raising concerns about displacement in certain economic sectors.

The parliament briefing follows Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) on Tuesday, reporting an unemployment rate decline to 31.9%, having dropped by 1.3 percentage points in the third quarter of the year.

UNEMPLOYMENT in the WESTERN CAPE: Two data driven statistical takeaways

1. WC is by far the best province in SA when it comes to unemployment. Good governance matters !!

2. When a politician speaks (in this case Premier Alan Winde) check the facts yourself before clapping.

Unemployment should be well below 10% in the WC (global norms) but isn't because we have to implement the destructive economic policies of the ANC/GNU.

Cape Independence would allow us to implement the sound economic policies we votes for and achieve sub-10% unemployment

Premier Winde is celebrating the 'fall' in unemployment, but the reality is that unemployment has actually increased year-on-year in the Western Cape whilst is has fallen nationally over the same period.

Winde is implying we can somehow outrun bad national policy, but we can't.

The WC people know that Cape Independence will improve their quality of life, & they support a referendum being held

The primary driver of quality of life is access to employment opportunities

It is time to stop celebrating mediocrity and to chart a path to excellence

CONFLICT & CAPE INDEPENDENCE: Conflict resolution specialist Andre Vlok argues that the debate around Cape Independence needs to be had (even though he opposes the idea).

"The secession debate in South Africa seems to be managed by being ignored [.....] I believe that secession conflicts will become more popular, more focused and more globally acceptable in the next decade."

"Secession as presented and as understood seems a foreign, new, invasive idea. Why divide the existing country? [.....] some 70% of existing sovereign entities are the result of secession of some sort or another."

The article deals with secession and other forms of self-determination from a South African perspective. It recommends a change of approach from secessionists (us) and bringing the legal debate to a conclusion to the extent that this is possible. This is timely.

We are currently planning a livestreamed mock trial to establish Western Cape people's right to self-determination under South African constitutional law, which by necessity extends to international law. We currently envisage that this will happen early in the new year.

The intention is to demonstrate that self-determination is a valid & powerful political option

The CIAG will be arguing it is and our team will be led by a highly esteemed Law Professor, and retired Advocate from the Cape Bar.

This subject is extremely topical. Only yesterday, Professor Pierre de Vos and Johannesburg Advocate Jon. M. Berger were arguing on X that no such right exists (in our opinion, based on their personal ideology rather than the law)

We have challenged them to come and make their case.

The World Bank approved a $925 million (R15.9 billion) loan for South Africa to support a six-year program costing three times that amount, as the country seeks to revive its major cities.
