🧴 World Allergy Week: Skin allergies are more than an itch.
Eczema and skin allergies can affect comfort, sleep, confidence and daily life.
For many people, itchy or inflamed skin is not a small problem. It can be painful, frustrating and stressful, especially for children and families trying to manage flare-ups.
There are many skincare tips online, but not all of them are safe for allergy-prone skin. Some products or “natural” remedies may make symptoms worse.
Trusted advice matters.
AFSA helps people understand skin allergy care and find reliable information about safer product choices and proper management.
💡 Professional Tip: If a rash keeps coming back, becomes painful, cracks, bleeds or affects sleep, get professional advice. Skin allergies need the right care, not guesswork.

❄️ Think allergies disappear in winter? Think again.
While pollen levels may drop during colder months, winter can still be difficult for many people living with allergies. Spending more time indoors can increase exposure to triggers like house dust mites, mould, pet dander and cockroaches.
This is why symptoms like sneezing, coughing, blocked noses and itchy eyes may continue during winter.
💡 Professional Tip: Keep your home well-ventilated, wash bedding weekly in hot water, and reduce damp areas to help lower indoor allergens during winter.

🫁 World Allergy Week: Asthma, hay fever and allergies are connected.
Respiratory allergies can affect how you breathe, sleep, learn and live.
Asthma and hay fever are common, but that does not mean they should be ignored. Poorly managed allergies can make daily life harder and may lead to more serious health problems.
Online advice can sometimes make asthma and allergy care seem simple. But every person is different. What works for one person may not be right for another.
That is why proper diagnosis and care matter.
AFSA encourages people to learn from trusted allergy experts, attend educational workshops, and speak to healthcare professionals when symptoms keep coming back.
💡 Professional Tip: If you often cough, wheeze, struggle with a blocked or runny nose, or wake up at night because of breathing symptoms, ask a healthcare professional for advice.

🥜 World Allergy Week: Food allergies need serious care.
Food allergies can be life-threatening.
A small amount of the wrong food can cause a serious reaction in some people. This is why it is so important to know your triggers, read food labels carefully and have an emergency plan.
There is a lot of food allergy advice on social media. Some of it is helpful, but some of it is incorrect and can put people at risk.
The safest advice comes from qualified healthcare professionals, such as allergy specialists, doctors and registered dietitians.
AFSA supports better food allergy education so families can make safer choices every day.
💡 Professional Tip: If you think you or your child has a food allergy, do not remove many foods without proper advice. Get the right diagnosis and guidance from a trained professional.

💊 Allergy Myths Busted: Antihistamines can treat anaphylaxis
❌ That’s not true.
Antihistamines may help relieve mild allergy symptoms like itching or hives, but they are not enough to treat a severe allergic reaction.
Anaphylaxis is a serious medical emergency that can affect breathing, blood pressure and multiple organs in the body. Epinephrine is the only life-saving treatment for anaphylaxis and should be given immediately when symptoms of a severe reaction appear.
Delaying proper treatment can be dangerous.
💡 Professional Tip: If you or your child is at risk of anaphylaxis, always carry prescribed emergency medication and know how and when to use it.

🌍 World Allergy Week: Help Make Food Choices Safer.
For people living with food allergies, accurate food labelling is not just helpful, it can be life-saving.
AFSA has launched a new Report a Product initiative to help identify food products that may have incorrect, incomplete, or confusing allergen information. By reporting concerns, you can help improve food safety and protect others in the allergy community.
Every report helps AFSA advocate for clearer food labelling and greater awareness of the challenges faced by people living with food allergies.
💡 Professional Tip: Always read ingredient labels carefully, even on products you buy regularly. Ingredients, recipes, and allergen warnings can change without notice.

🌍 World Allergy Week starts today.
Allergies are not “just a rash”, “just a sneeze” or “just a food problem”.
For many people, allergies are part of daily life. They can affect breathing, skin, food choices, school, work and family routines.
This World Allergy Week, AFSA’s message is simple: Allergy Care Is Essential Care.
That means getting the right information from the right person. Not every allergy tip you see online is safe or true. Social media can be helpful, but allergy advice should come from trusted health professionals and reliable organisations.
Throughout World Allergy Week, AFSA is focusing on closing the gap between awareness and practical management through education and access. AFSA’s patient focused Allergy Education Workshops are interactive 1.5 hour sessions hosted on Zoom. The workshops include specialist presentations followed by a dedicated 30-minute Q&A session where patients and caregivers can bring their questions directly to the specialists.
In addition, AFSA’s livestreaming events are 1 hour educational and awareness sessions streamed via social media and the AFSA website, making trusted allergy information accessible to a wider audience.

💡 Professional Tip: If you are worried about allergies, do not guess. Speak to a qualified healthcare professional and use trusted allergy resources to guide your next step.
