Folks, it is 5 days to go until Siya runs his first ultra UP RUN ComradesMarathon. From an absolute novice, running to work to save on taxi fare, to running marathons for the working cart horses on the Cape Flats. As an NPO, we need to think of creative ways to raise much needed funds and Siya shows up every time 🙏

If you have not supported Siya yet, there is still time. Please click on the link below. Collectively, we can make a huge difference for working cart horses.

Inspector Jolize and Inspector Duane took Black Friday to our Recovery and Rehabilitation Centre, where he is now safe and sound. Thank you so much Animal Welfare Society of SA for responding to the call out about this precious soul and holding him until our Inspectors arrived. Working together to rescue those cart horses being abused on our roads 🙏

A busy clinic day at CHPA means more than horses receiving care.

Behind every horse is an owner or driver working hard to support a family. While our team tends to hooves, health checks, and welfare concerns, we also spend time listening, advising, and building relationships with the people who depend on these horses every day.

Every horse seen, every owner assisted, and every conversation held helps strengthen welfare on the Cape Flats.

Remember Meisiekind who had that long and complicated tooth extraction in April? Well, Meisiekind was pregnant and her owners did not know.

Today, we received an urgent call from her owner that she was aborting and the foal was stuck. Our team rushed her to Blue Cross Veterinary Hospital where they were able to remove her foal, who they think was just four months old😢😢

What would have happened to Meisiekind if CHPA was not there? I don't want to even think of what she would have endured🥹

🩵 A Warm Gesture on a Cold Morning 🩵

Winter mornings on the Cape Flats can be bitterly cold. Many cart horse owners and drivers travel from informal settlements to bring their horses in for shoeing, feed, or veterinary care before starting their working day.

Over the years, we've built strong relationships with many of the owners and drivers we serve. While our focus is always on the welfare of their horses, we also care about the people behind them.

Seeing owners waiting in the cold while their horses were being attended to, our EPWP team decided to offer them a warm cup of soup. It was a simple gesture, but one that was warmly received and greatly appreciated.

Folks, there are allot of horses in Chatsworth and our team went out today to assist their horses with farrier services, inspections and assistance. They use their horses for getting wood and water and ride them for pleasure.

Your donations allow CHPA to also do outreach work in communities that really need our assistance.
