Yesterday evening the Hawks Patrol Leader, Iris, with help from the rest of the PLs planned a Master Chef programme where all the Scouters were judges.

The Patrols were each given a box of random ingredients that they had to take and figure out a meal that used all of it, while also having to complete some very funny STAs, such as trying to make the Scouter team laugh and doing a skit.

It was a fun, competitive and very close evening as Kings and Hawks tied in second and Owls came out on top by one point!šŸ„‡

This year’s Gordon’s Shield was an amazing experience for our 3rd Pinelands team. Going into this competition, our aim was not to win, but rather to train our Scouts and to teach and prepare them for next year. Keeping that in mind, the team did very well and managed to come 9th! šŸ˜šŸŽ‰

A huge thanks to the Chief Judge Ashley Minshall, his team of judges, and everyone who made this amazing competition possible. Well done to our fantastic team and the PL who led them, Isla!

ā€œI’m so proud of my team and what they were able to achieve. We put in a lot of effort and I couldn’t be happier with the result. Thank you to my incredible patrol for always being so enthusiastic and working hard at every training session and on the actual competition. Thank you to the parents for getting the patrol members and equipment to and from Hawequas and all the training days - this couldn’t have happened without your support. Well done everyone and here’s to laying the foundation for 2026! šŸ„³ā€ ~ Isla

Last week we said goodbye to 2 of our seniors. Chris and Don were both big parts of 3rd Pinelands for many years and they will be sorely missed especially by their patrols. Chris was the PL of Hawks and Don the PL of Owls. Over the years they took part in competitions, courses, camps and so much more. Thank you so much for all your contributions, the friendships and memories will last forever and you will always have a presence here in the troop. ā¤ļøāšœļø

Last week Wednesday 2 of our scouts, Isla and Alex, were invited to a very special evening at the Castle of Good Hope

Igshaan Higgins, one of the PLTU dinner guests this year and an attorney on the board of the organisation sponsoring them, hosted a dinner and dialogue evening at his restaurant at the Castle with a group of Palestinian and Israeli youth. The evening was all about showing how mutual respect and open conversation can bridge divides and build understanding — even in complex and emotional situations.

Alex and Isla both reported finding the evening incredibly interesting and are incredibly honoured to have been involved. Thank you so much to the organisers for this opportunity!

This past weekend 6 of our scouts participated in the Doc Shield Competition, with 9 more members of 3rd Pinelands acting as staff members. The team did incredibly well and managed to reclaim our title as winners by a convincing 37 points! šŸ˜šŸŽ‰

This overnight competition runs in the same way Gordon’s Shield does but it is aimed at juniors to help them train and prepare for future events. The teams complete bases, pioneer a campsite and serve a dinner cooked over fire

While the team definitely learnt a lot, the staff members also got some valuable insight into the workings of competitions that will assist them in weeks to come…

A huge thank you to our very own Melissa Rijs for running an amazing competition with her team and everyone else who made this possible. And well done to our incredible team and the PL who led them, Sarah!

This past Saturday, 18 of our scouts set out on Winter Camp 2025 - the first one we have had in over 3 years! šŸ˜

This 4 day, 3 night camp was planned and run by Isla and has taken her one more step along her journey to achieving the Springbok Award, and her second major requirement completed after the community service project in April (also a camp šŸ˜…)

On the camp participants passed off many requirements for their respective advancement levels and also all completed survival scoutcraft! There was also a major focus on first aid training and pioneering practise for Gordon’s. Each day’s program consisted of a major activity that was purely for fun, on Day 1 they had a fashion show, Day 2 was a game show called ā€˜Would I Lie to You?’, Day 3 was first aid scenes and dancing and Day 4 was Minute to Win It!

Isla had the following to say:
ā€œI had so much fun running this camp and I hope everyone else had fun being on it. I am so grateful for all the incredible support I have received from my troop (scouts, scouters, parents) and I am so happy I was able to run this camp purely for 3rd Pinelands scouts. It was an amazing bonding and learning opportunity for all of usā€

Thank you to Rotary for allowing us to stay at your beautiful campsite in Glencairn 🄰

Yesterday the Kings Patrol went on a hike up Lions Head, enjoying the beautiful weather and scenery ā˜ŗļø

They had a PIC at the top and used this opportunity to do another requirement for the National Challenge, where each member shared a bit about their personal heritage with certain items that hold a lot of significance.

They all had a lot of fun and enjoyed the time together , and what better way to celebrate our personal cultural backgrounds than on top of a mountain? āšœļøā¤ļø
