This is the kind of feedback that reminds us exactly why Job Journey exists! So we have to share it with you too.
Ten people started the Job Journey course in Oudtshoorn a couple of weeks ago. Five of them had never sat in front of a computer before in their lives. With the Oudtshoorn team, our partner facilitator and a group of church volunteers, guiding them each step of the way, something shifted. As our partner facilitator put it:
"I could stand back and watch them on day 7/8 log into the google account, type up their cover letters, ask for assistance to help correct spelling and grammar, and then email it to me, with minimal guidance, my heart burst with pride. "
One participant nearly didn't make it to day two. He'd recently been released from prison and was working hard to turn his life around. On the first morning, he could barely introduce himself in English. The team made the call to keep him in the course and support him through it.
By graduation day, he stood in front of the whole room and spoke, in English, about everything he had learned. Confidently. You could see it in the way he carried himself. He knew he had done something hard, and he had done it.
Nine of the ten finished the course. Seven graduated with five-star certificates. Two have already landed jobs!
