Taswin and Jean surfed so well today, advancing all the way through. OB got hard scoring from judges and missed making finals by 0.2, 5th place overall and a huge result for his first ever trip outside SA!

Focus then shifted to Jean and despite some pretty terrible waves he found a few gems, and finished in a close matchup coming 2nd to Senegal’s

So proud of how these two carried themselves, represented 🇿🇦 and surfed at a high level throughout the event. We’ve had an awesome travel mission together in this beautiful country. And made a lot of new friends in English and French!

Both and convincingly won their open heats today. Waves are a lot smaller but not that different to a summer day at the Berg, just in boardshorts! Great way to kickoff their campaign and representing 🇿🇦 surfing. Rnd 3 tmoro morning and promise of more swell

We have an exciting opportunity to send 2 local surfers to compete in the Ivory Coast Open 20-22 March in the beautiful Assinie, West Africa.

Last year was a lifechanging experience for our 2 surfers, who both did exceptionally well against Africa's best (1st and 7th!)

We'd love to make this happen again, but need support from the community to cover the costs of getting these young athletes to the big event. We need to raise R60k (€3200) to cover flights, visas and basic travel expenses.

WE DID IT!! 🥳🙏🙈❤️🚌
We finally got our own bus for the boys at The Local Surf Lounge Academy!

No more long walks for the little ones, no more being stuck surfing the bad conditions at the local beach when its cooking on the other side, no more hassles getting to contests... more outings, more opportunities!

We are so chuffed, still half cant believe it has happened.
We started with a crowdfund a year ago, managing to raise about 15% needed 🙏 then it went very quiet. Miraculously an opportunity came to submit an application to the German Lotto ‘Bingo’, who loved the proposal and sponsored us the full balance needed to get our 16-seat Toyota Quantum. We are beyond grateful and have already done the first of many outings with the crew!

Feeding our many hungry young surfers is a big part of our program but it’s always a challenge with a small budget.

This week we started an amazing ‘resource-share’ partnership with the amazing .org.za who are sharing 25 litres of soup and bread with LSLA, 3 times a week!! It’s a huge deal for us, and we are so grateful for the nutritional support that is so important for these growing young men.

The 3rd and final event supported by went down in nice conditions at Witsands on Saturday.

Surfers were ripping, vibes were high and we had a great closing ceremony to award the series grand-prize of a custom surfboard to overall champion 👑🙌 Well done to new WP u18 for taking out this event 🔥

💙 So stoked to see this inaugural league become a reality. Communities bridged. Performance lifted. We’ll be back next year!
