📣 Are you an African Screenwriter with a powerful story to tell?

Submissions for the 5th edition of the AuthenticA Series Lab are open!

AuthenticA is open to all African screenwriters. The six-month programme, which will consist of a combination of online and in-person sessions, is set to take place from 17 September 2026 to 27 March 2027:

•Residency in Ethiopia – 17 to 24 September 2026
•Work from home with weekly online meetings – 25 September to 12 December 2026
•Break – 15 December 2026 to 2 January 2027
•Work from home with weekly online meetings – 5 to 14 January 2027
•Residency in Switzerland – 19 January to 19 March 2027
•Residency at Series Mania – 20 to 27 March 2027

The programme welcomes original series projects in any genre, from writers living in Africa or the African diaspora, provided the story concept is set in Africa.

Four writers will be selected and mentored by Selina Ukwuoma, Story Consultant and Director of Writing Programmes, and Mehret Mandefro, Creative Producer and Managing Director of the Realness Institute, through a mixture of online and in-person sessions from September 2026 to April 2027.

🔵The AuthenticA Series Lab Returns for Its Fifth Edition! Submissions are now open!✨🎬🌍

Realness Institute, in partnership with the StoryBoard Collective and with the support of the Canada Media Fund and the Series Mania Forum are proud to present the fifth edition of AuthenticA Series Lab!

Five years. Fifteen writers. Countless stories that only they could tell. The AuthenticA Series Lab continues to do what it was built to do — give African voices the time, space, and support to be heard on the world stage. And for this milestone fifth year, we are marking the occasion by taking AuthenticA to Ethiopia, for our 1st in-person residency of this edition. 🖤🌍

This six-month programme will support the development of series scripts for four screenwriters from African countries and the diaspora. With a combination of online and in-person sessions, this is your chance to enhance your skills and represent authentic, up-to-date viewpoints of the continent. Don’t miss this opportunity to grow your craft and contribute to the African film industry!

Annual Alumni Breakfast in Cannes!

There is nothing like breaking bread at our annual alumni breakfast at Cannes Film Festival. It comes at the end of our programmatic year so our staff is empty and tired. But after one meal with our alumni, energy is all the way back up.

The breakfast is an annual event for our community to gather, connect, reflect, and take stock. “If you want to go fast go alone. If you want to go far go together.”

Grateful for everyone who showed up. The far is looking good🫶🏽
