Founded on the 1st of October 2014, The Auntie Mabel Flood Fund was born. The name derives from our first project; fixing Auntie Mabel's leaky roof!! In April 2014, we decided to raise some money for Mabel to help fix her roof. Auntie Mabel is an elderly community worker who has lived in the township for most of her life and currently shares a shack with her daughters and grandchildren. With the m
oney we raised we managed to go beyond expectations and not only did we manage to make her shack waterproof, we were able to provide her with her very own flushing toilet, bath and shower with hot water!! This really managed to turn a house into a home. At seeing how successful this project was, we were inspired to try and help more people like Auntie Mabel. Our aim is to help people during the rainy seasons by fixing roofs, providing insulation and heating and by basically just trying to make homes as comfortable as possible during these cold and windy seasons. Living in a township is hard at the best of times but what we aim to do is make people as comfortable as possible in their current living environment. Alternatively, in the summer we also aim to help those people who have been affected by the township fires, which can be devastating to shacks, by providing forms of shelter and support. We feel so passionately about making a difference to the lives of those who are effected by poverty and we urge you to support us in our mission. Every penny accounts and we are more than happy to welcome any volunteers who have ideas on how to help. If you want to donate please use PayPal: [email protected]
Remember donations don't need to be money, you can donate your time, food, blankets or anything that you believe could help this cause.
