There is something truly powerful about people coming together with a shared commitment to serve and uplift others. This Mandela Day, that collective spirit translated into tangible impact: approximately 3,915 litres of soup prepared and distributed, 6,800 sandwiches made and served, 60 of 4kg bags of vegetable soup mix donated, and 11 community kitchens and feeding stations reached across the Cape Flats.

Behind each figure is a meal shared, a community supported and a reminder that meaningful change is possible when we choose to show up for one another. We are deeply grateful to everyone who gave their time, energy and generosity to help us honour Madiba’s legacy through meaningful service.

A milestone worth celebrating!

More than 50 young people graduated from our Waves of Change programme, marking a significant achievement for both our students and our organisation. This graduation is especially meaningful as it is the first Waves of Change graduation in over three years, making the moment even more memorable for everyone involved.

Waves of Change equips young people with the confidence, life skills, resilience, and opportunities they need to navigate their futures with purpose. Seeing this many graduates step forward into the next chapter of their journey is a powerful reminder of what is possible when young people are supported and empowered.

Every contribution is a step towards dignity, education, and opportunity.

Thanks to your generosity, we have now raised R2,646 through our BackaBuddy - Crowdfunding South Africa campaign in support of girls at the Salesian Institute Youth Projects Learn to Live School of Skills. We’re grateful for every person who has donated, shared our campaign, or helped spread the message.

Our goal is R50,000, which will unlock a matching contribution from the MENstruation Foundation and help provide sustainable access to sanitary products for vulnerable girls and young women.

This Women’s Month, let’s keep the momentum going. Together, we can ensure that no girl misses school because of her period.

Our Stitch Ahead team created these beautiful aprons for the Learn to Live Hairdressing Workshop, ensuring our young hairdressing students are ready to represent with pride at their recent competition. Every apron reflects not only exceptional craftsmanship, but also the spirit of mentorship, opportunity, and women supporting the next generation of young women.

We proudly welcomed our second cohort of the year as our Solar Mounting NEETs students and Stitch Ahead Cohort 2 officially begin their journey with Salesian Institute Youth Projects.

The day also marked a significant milestone as they celebrated their Life Skills Graduation, having successfully completed the essential two-week foundation programme. This important first step has equipped them with the confidence, resilience, and workplace readiness needed as they embark on their vocational training and career pathways.

Congratulations to each learner on this achievement. We look forward to witnessing your growth, determination, and success in the months ahead. Here's to new beginnings and a future filled with opportunity!

We had the privilege of being part of a meaningful Mandela Day Commemorative Programme hosted by the Western Cape Provincial Parliament, where our youth were welcomed by the Deputy Speaker Reagen Allen MPL and the PEO Unit.

The programme served as a meaningful reminder that Nelson Mandela's legacy lives on through the choices we make and the actions we take every day. Our young people were encouraged to embrace responsible citizenship, community service and the important role they play in driving positive social change. As we honour Madiba's legacy, we are reminded that building a more just and equitable society remains a shared responsibility, and that through compassion, service and purposeful action, we can continue to create lasting change for generations to come.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who showed up, lent a helping hand and contributed to making a difference in the lives of communities in need. Your continued support enables us to serve with purpose and compassion, and to continue the legacy of Nelson Mandela through the power of giving, kindness and service.
