This group of babies constitute a large proportion of those needing emergency placement. As of April 2010, the Children’s Act (No. 38 of 2005), was amended to stipulate that “all children relinquished for adoption need to be declared adoptable before placement.” New protocols set in place provide biological parents with a 60-day window period within which consent to an adoption can be withdrawn. This period of transition has stepped up the need for temporary safety care facilities which ensure that the best interests of the child are met.
*Removal of vulnerable babies to temporary safe care*
Vulnerable babies requiring temporary safe care are often removed from their parents’ or caregivers’ custody because of maltreatment, abuse, deliberate neglect, or degradation. Temporary safe care is often necessary to allow social workers dealing with difficult cases where infants are exposed to circumstances which may seriously harm their physical, mental, or social well-being. This gives social workers the opportunity to open a court inquiry for proceedings to go ahead. Banking details:
