As the chilly wind was pummeling Cape Town last night, a warming contribution was on its way to The Service Dining Rooms. As a result there were 😃 smiles 😀 all 😄 round today when our clients learned that Akintola had again paid for their meals. 💛💚♥️. Our staff were tasked with saying a BIG , BIG thank you to Akin! 😍

How about these superheroes 🦸🏾‍♂️🦸🏽‍♀️🦸🏽 from Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). They are 2nd year HR Students 👩🏽‍🏫🧑🏻‍🏫👨🏽‍🏫who will be joining us from next week to do sixty (Yes, 6️⃣0️⃣!) hours of service learning and volunteering. But, dear reader, that’s not (yet) why they are superheroes.

They are superheroes because, of their own initiative, on Saturday, they enquired about what foods we need for dining room service🍽️.

And today? …….

Today they arrived with gifts of pockets of potatoes, brinjals, gem squash and carrots 🥔 🍆 🥕 as well as exotic fruit juice!

Showing care like this will be of wonderful benefit to our clients. Thanks so much, guys, and roll on Monday. 🥳

What a pleasure it was today to be joined on this World Hunger Day by members of the Cape Town Lions Club 🦁, left to right, Jimmy, Club President Paula and Gail. And it was FoodForward SA that put the cherry - no, the Oreos - on top and lit up our clients faces. 😀😃😋.

🎉📦 Our team was thrilled today to receive a brand new microwave oven from Rotary Club of Newlands! 👏💙 In a busy kitchen serving hundreds of meals, this is a truly valuable piece of equipment 🍲⚡ and, you can see from the video, our staff are rather excited 😄🎥

🍎 When a kitchen counter becomes a small work of ‘heart’, one made of crisp apples, generously donated ❤️.

Twice a week, without fuss, Fred arrives at The Service Dining Rooms ready to roll up his sleeves for lunch service, and to help wherever needed. From kitchen duties to unexpected jobs, he cheerfully gets on with it. 👏✨

🥕🧡 A crack team of five volunteers from Amazon Web Services Support Engineering arrived at SDR this morning. They had barely tied on their aprons before being deployed to chop kilometres — yes, kilometres — of carrots. Well… almost. 😄

When you’re serving lunch for about 350 people every weekday, the mountain of carrots starts to look less like vegetables and more like civil engineering. 🥕🏗️

Yay the team. Now for lunch service. 😋
