EQUIPPING ADULTS TO EQUIP YOUNG PEOPLE FOR THEIR FUTURES.
The lack of career guidance is partly linked to a lack of adults equipped to provide meaningful career education. The more adults we equip, the more young people can access relevant information, explore their strengths and make informed decisions about their futures. This is why the Mobile Career Café (MCC) is committed to developing career development practitioners through training and capacity-building opportunities.
In a world of rapid change and increasing uncertainty, young people are asking not only, “What career should I pursue?”, but also, “Who am I becoming, and how can I live a meaningful and purposeful life?”
As part of this commitment, Action Volunteers Africa recently hosted a two-day Career Education Workshop, bringing together educators, social workers and youth workers. Drawing on a strength-based approach, the workshop explored how practitioners can walk alongside young people, recognise their unique strengths and support them in developing positive and hopeful life stories.
Facilitated by Dr Darryl Smith, the training explored key concepts including Life Design, Hope, Resilience and Adaptability, as well as the challenges faced by emerging adults and the Narrative Approach to Career Guidance.
By investing in those who guide and support young people, we are investing in a generation better equipped to navigate change, make informed choices and build meaningful futures.
