Opportunities were waiting – and our youth showed up ready to grab them!

On the 5 August , our incredible YeBoneers attended the Youth in Action Expo at the CTICC, where they explored a world of exciting opportunities for their future.

From engaging with a variety of exhibitors to discovering pathways for education, employment, skills development and persona growth, every stall offered something new to learn. The excitement didn’t stop there- our YearBeyond team was also proudly represented with a stall, connecting with young people and sharing opportunities that can help unlock their potential.

It was a day filled with inspiration, learning, networking, and big dreams. Experiences like these remind our youth that their future is full of possibilities, and with the right information and support, they can achuieve anything they set their minds to.

The future is bright, and this is only the beginning!

What an incredible milestone for the Mobile Career Café! 🎉

Equipping young adults with the professional skills needed to become employable remains at the heart of everything we do at Action Volunteers Africa (AVA).

In partnership with Capitec's HR team, we proudly hosted our very first Mobile Corporate Career Café on 21 July 2026 at the Capitec Headoffice in Stellenbosch, providing 35 young adult with an inspiring day of learning, growth, and career development.

Participants took part in interactive sessions covering:
✨ Professionalism in the workplace
🤖 Using AI to strengthen CVs and job applications
📄 Building impactful, opportunity-ready CVs

One of the highlights of the day was an engaging panel discussion with members of the Capitec team. They shared their personal career journeys, reflecting on the lessons they learned growing up, the challenges of finding their place in the workplace, and how resilience, hard work, and dedication have shaped their careers. Their honesty and encouragement inspired our young participants to believe in their own potential and embrace every opportunity to grow.

A sincere thank you to Capitec for partnering with us to invest in the future of South Africa's youth. Together, we are helping young people build the confidence, skills, and mindset needed to thrive in the world of work.

The Mobile Career Café Team has been on the move! 🚐✨

Over the past month, our team has been hard at work in the Eastern Cape, delivering much-needed career guidance workshops to high school learners and helping them take confident steps towards their future.

We had the privilege of working with approximately 280 Grade 9 and Grade 12 learners from KwaMagqaki and Hankey Secondary School, equipping them with practical career guidance, valuable insights into education and employment pathways, and the tools they need to make informed decisions about their futures.

It is always inspiring to see young people engaging, asking questions, and exploring the many opportunities available to them. Every workshop brings us one step closer to empowering youth with the knowledge and confidence to pursue meaningful careers.

A heartfelt thank you to our schools, partners, and everyone who continues to support the work of the Mobile Career Café. Together, we are opening doors to brighter futures—one learner at a time. 💙

At Action Volunteers Africa, some of the most meaningful moments come from hearing directly from the young people whose lives are being transformed through our programmes.

Today, we celebrate the journey of Thaakiya Davids, a YeBoneer from Merrydale Primary School in Mitchells Plain.

“Before I joined AVA, I was a very antisocial person and struggled to communicate and get along with others. During my time in this programme, I gained communication skills and became more comfortable expressing my opinions and speaking in public. This programme made me more confident and brave. Our Future Fit sessions also taught me how to better understand myself and deal with life’s challenges. The ecosystem of support helped me take care of my emotional well-being.”

Stories like Thaakiya’s remind us that empowering young people goes far beyond teaching skills—it’s about building confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging. When youth are given the right support and opportunities, they discover strengths they never knew they had.

We are incredibly proud of Thaakiya and all the young people who continue to grow, learn, and step boldly into their futures. 💙

🌍💙 A Warm AVA Welcome! 💙🌍

The AVA team is delighted to welcome our two new interns from Hong Kong, Sumey and Alison!

Over the next few months, until August, they will be working alongside our team and supporting the delivery of our programmes as we continue to empower young people and create opportunities for growth.

We are excited to have them join the AVA family and look forward to the fresh perspectives, enthusiasm, and experiences they will bring. We hope their time with us will be filled with meaningful learning, cultural exchange, and unforgettable memories.

As we continue celebrating Youth Month, we invited one of our YearBeyond volunteers, Olwethu Jezile, from one of our Khayelitsha partner schools, to reflect on her journey. This is what she had to say:

“ Since joining the YearBeyond programme under Action Volunteers Africa I have grown significantly in confidence, responsibility and teamwork. Through tutoring and youth development activities, I learned how to plan and facilitate sessions, communicate effectively and support the learners in their growth. The programme taught me that leadership is not about having all the answers ,It is about showing up consistently, serving others and helping them reach their full potential.

I joined the Catch-up programme because I was looking for a personal and professional growth. I knew I had potential, but I needed guidance, practical skills and a space where I could develop them. The programme is providing that through mentorship and meaningful responsibilities. I joined for the opportunity and so far I am enjoying being helpful to the learners and assisting them into becoming the best version of themselves while they improve academically.”

AVA is proud to provide these young people a safe space to become the best version of themselves.

On 19 May 2026, AVA collaborated with Deloitte to celebrate their annual Volunteer Day.

In partnership with Deloitte, AVA hosted a Mobile Corporate Career Café (MCCC) aimed at equipping youth with meaningful skills development opportunities to enhance their employability. The sessions presented on the day included Real Work Readiness, Personal Branding, and Project Management 101.

This marked AVA’s third consecutive year collaborating with Deloitte in celebration of their annual Volunteer Day, reflecting the ongoing commitment of both organisations to empowering youth through career guidance and skills development initiatives.

AVA would like to extend its gratitude to the Deloitte staff for contributing to the empowerment of the youth.

A special thank you YMCA Cape Town IseeU Columba Leadership The LifeMatters Foundation for allowing some of their youth to join us on the day.
