Yesterday marked the unwelcome 4th anniversay of Pollsmoor's abuse of a residential road in Tokai.
On 23 July 2021, Pollsmoor management actioned an unprecedented change to its side gate usage, and it became operational 7 days a week, and then 24/7.
For the 38-odd years prior, the gate had only been available for people living within the Pollsmoor residential precinct, only for part of the week. It was closed at night, on weekends, on public holidays and during major school holidays.
Pollsmoor's change in usage has brought:
🚫 Pollsmoor guards conducting illegal security checks on a public road.
⁉️ Armed guards wearing bullet-proof vests, searching for contraband outside people’s homes.
🚐 Taxis using a road with a NO TAXI restriction - to access the Pollsmoor gate.
🚗 🚙 🚚 Excessive vehicle volumes, 24/7
🔊 🔊 🔊 Excessive noise, 24/7
🏃 Incidents of prisoners escaping - perhaps via the side gate via Tokai?
🚨 Prisoners sometimes on work detail at the open gate, and outside the facility’s perimeter, working in a Tokai residential road.
💤 DCS staff on duty at the side entrance are at times asleep late at night and in the early hours of the morning.
🏃 🚔🚨🚔A suspect in a taxi chased by private security, running INTO POLLSMOOR THROUGH THE OPEN SIDE GATE. This became a major police incident, with tactical teams and sniffer dogs on the scene.
🔌 The gate open during loadshedding, with insufficient lighting.
⛔ All this while Pollsmoor's main entrance on Steenberg Road remains closed at night?
4 years of the abuse of power by a state entity. This is corruption.
