GENOCIDE IS A LEGAL DEFINITION, NOT JUST A DEATH TOLL.

The numbers matter. So does the context.

Genocide requires specific intent to destroy a national, ethnic, racial or religious group, in whole or in part. It cannot be established by comparing death tolls or percentages alone.

When discussing Israel and Gaza, we must look beyond headlines, examine the evidence and apply international law consistently.

Facts matter. Context matters. And words matter. 🇮🇱

Days after the anniversary of 7 October, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has awarded its Peace Prize to Navi Pillay, whose UN inquiry refused to stand behind the Israeli women r***d that day.

Women were r***d beside the bodies of their friends. Hostages were sexually abused in the tunnels of Gaza. The UN's own envoy found reasonable grounds to believe it happened. Survivors found the courage to speak.

Pillay's commission said it could not verify their suffering. Then it turned around and devoted an entire report to accusing Israel.

On 10 December, the final day of the 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence, she will collect the world's most famous prize for peace.

South Africa knows what it costs when survivors are doubted. We say it every year: believe women. That must include Israeli women.

There can be no peace built on the silence of survivors. This prize is a disgrace to everything it claims to stand for.

Today, 7 October, marks three years since the devastating Hamas terror attacks on Israel.

More than 1,200 innocent men, women and children - Jews and non-Jews, Israelis, Arabs and foreign nationals - were murdered, and more than 250 people were taken hostage into Gaza.

Today, the Cape SAJBD, together with the SAZF Cape Council and our national partners, dressed in black and stood at seven landmarks across South Africa, holding posters displaying the facts of what happened on 7 October 2023.

We stood so that South Africans can see the truth, understand the horror of that day, condemn the atrocities committed, and remember the innocent lives that were so brutally stolen.

Three years later, we remember.

We remember those who were murdered.
We remember those who were taken hostage.
We remember the families whose lives were changed forever.

And we make this clear: the Jewish community will not remain silent. We will not be intimidated by those who hate us. We will not allow the events of 7 October to be erased, distorted or rewritten.

We will remember. We will stand together. And we will never forget.

We are proud Jews.
We are proud Zionists.
And we will not be silenced.

WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED.

Not about October 7.

WE STAND TOGETHER.

For Israel.
For our community.
For every Jewish person who refuses to shrink or hide.

In a time when our pain is being challenged, our response is simple:
We stand. We are proud. We are here. 🇮🇱

WE REMEMBER.

The lives lost.
The families shattered.
The hostages taken.

October 7 is not a slogan. It is a day of unimaginable pain that our community will never forget.

Am Yisrael Chai. 🇮🇱
