On 26 May 2026, the FW de Klerk Foundation’s Constitutional Advancement Programme had the privilege of engaging with learners at Christel House South Africa in Cape Town. CAP intern Thando Malinga led an interactive session on young people, democracy and the future of South Africa, focusing on the practical meaning of constitutional rights, the importance of active citizenship and why local government elections matter in the everyday lives of communities. The session also formed part of the Foundation’s 5-module constitutional education programme, which seeks to equip learners with a deeper understanding of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, participatory democracy and the power of informed voting ahead of the upcoming Local Government Elections.
At the Foundation, we believe constitutional education must empower young South Africans not only to know their rights, but to use their voices responsibly, ask difficult questions, hold leaders accountable and participate meaningfully in building the country’s democratic future. Thank you to Christel House South Africa for the warm welcome and thoughtful engagement. Strengthening constitutional awareness among the next generation remains essential to ensuring that South Africa’s democracy is lived, protected and renewed by informed, active and principled citizens.
