Are you breastfeeding? Why not join the La Leche League South Africa breastfeeding hour to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week?

Talking of celebrating, we would like to celebrate the wonderful Le Leche League leaders who give so generously of their time, breastfeeding knowledge and love to so many breastfeeding mothers.

They are not paid a cent for the support they provide and the time with their own families that they give up willingly to be there when other mothers and babies need them most.

Thank you to each and every one of the La Leche League leaders. We appreciate you and we celebrate you and your contribution to breastfeeding.

LLLSA invites you to participate in a breastfeeding hour (10-11am) Tuesday, 4 Aug🤱

Wherever you are, lets unite and celebrate together. Share your brelfies/videos/images to show your support.

An interesting new study....

Want new evidence that a deep latch is key to comfortable and effective breastfeeding? This 2026 cross-sectional ultrasound study of breastfeeding biomechanics found depth of latch and tongue mobility linked to milk-flow rates and pain scores. New finding: a link between severity of reflux disease and rate of milk transfer. Free download here: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/42192456/

Human milk provides the best protection against the dreaded necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), which premature babies are particularly prone to.

When their own mother's breastmilk is not available, then donor milk is the next best option.

Do you have spare breastmilk that your baby does not need that you could donate to help us feed and protect these tiny babies?

You extra breastmilk can be not only a bridge to breastfeeding for a mom and her baby, but a lifeline for her tiny premature baby.

Keeping very premature babies exclusively breastmilk fed, especially in their early weeks of life, makes a huge difference to their chance of survival.

If you have more breastmilk than your own baby needs and would like to join us in , please contact us:

Sometimes though, a mother is not able to provide the breastmilk her baby needs – and what alternative is used matters.
