📊 The evidence keeps stacking up.

A new study led by researchers at Boston College, using data from 2,896 employees across 141 organizations in six countries, confirms what we’ve seen time and time again: reducing working hours is a game-changer for employee well-being.

The results speak for themselves:
🧯 70% reported less burnout
🧠 40%+ reported improved mental health
🌙 38% enjoyed better sleep quality

The bigger the reduction in hours at an individual level, the stronger the boost in wellbeing.

What’s driving these outcomes?
➡️ Enhanced self-rated work ability
➡️ Fewer sleep issues
➡️ Lower fatigue

Both company-wide and individual reductions showed benefits, but the strongest gains came when people personally got more time back.

For us, this reinforces what we’ve long believed: shorter working weeks aren’t just good for employees. They’re a strategic investment for businesses too.

Happier, healthier teams perform better. That’s why more than 90% of companies trialling a 4 day week choose to keep it.

👉 The question isn’t if shorter work weeks work. The data shows they do. The real question is: when will your organization take the leap?

The debate around the 4 day week often gets stuck in the shallow end. It’s reduced to soundbites, simple equations, or binary arguments about hours versus output.

But this surface-level framing misses the point entirely.

Because the future of productivity isn’t about asking people to give more of their time. It’s about redesigning work so that time is spent more effectively. AI and technology have already been created for us.

When will we evolve our models of work instead of endlessly demanding more from the same outdated system?

Because the future of productivity isn’t about asking people to give more of their time. It’s about redesigning work so that time is better spent.

What would it take for you to view productivity not as more hours worked, but as less wasted time?

🇦🇺 Australia could be next to embrace the 4 day week

The Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) is pushing for a shorter working week, including a 4 day work week with no loss of pay, at this week’s Economic Reform Roundtable in Canberra.

Why now?
📉 Australians are working some of the longest hours in the developed world, but productivity growth has flatlined.
📈 Global trials show reduced hours lead to higher productivity, better health, less burnout, and improved retention.

The proposal:
💡 100:80:100 model – 100% pay, 80% time, 100% productivity (our own model)
💡 For industries where a 4 day week isn’t possible: more rostered days off, extra leave, or flexible schedules.

Whether you work in an office, a classroom, a hospital or on the shop floor, the conversation is heating up. Could Australia become the next country to make the 4 day week a reality?

What if a shorter workday didn’t just make staff happier but boosted business too?
💡 In Gothenburg, a Toyota Service Centre cut shifts to just six hours without compressing them.
📈 The result? Extended opening hours, steady productivity, and happier, more energised staff.
Sometimes less really is more.

From 128% turnover to 44%.

At The Glebe in Virginia, staff were offered a shorter workweek:
30 hours on the job, 40 hours’ pay — if they showed up on time and avoided sick days.

The results?
📉 Less burnout
📉 Fewer agency costs
📉 Massive savings
📈 Happier teams
📈 Better retention

This isn’t just a perk.
It’s a smarter, more sustainable way to work.

Working less is leading to more sales.

New research shows that sales professionals on a 4 day week are 8% more likely to hit targets than their peers.

Meanwhile…
🔻 75% are working overtime
🔻 Burnout is rising
🔻 Quota achievement is falling

Turns out, more hours ≠ better performance.
It’s time we stop glorifying the grind.

💡 The future?
Smarter work. Healthier teams. Sustainable success.

Did you know that Europe once had longer work hours than the US? This changed in the 1970s, but why?

1. Healthcare became part of work benefits package, beginning during World War II to entice workers when the government had capped salaries in order to control inflation.
2. Employers preferred having salaried workers over hourly contracts, where their hours would eventually become ‘elastic’ e.g. they would continue to extend as they have done over the last 50 years.
3. They also preferred workers who just worked one job, with them. This meant for workers that job loss would have affected them more than when they had 2 or 3 jobs spread out across the week.

These three reasons contributed to the continuing lengthening of work hours in the US in recent decades. In Europe, healthcare remained public, unions held strong and salaried workers weren’t as popular, hence their continuous reduction in average number of hours worked a week.

Another factor, is inequality of income, which is more prevalent in the US than Europe. Are there any others that you can think of?

The 5-day, 40-hour work week? It’s no longer the global norm.

📊 Just 29% of workers worldwide still follow that model. The rest are shifting to compressed weeks, flexible schedules, and part-time setups.

The future of work is already here.

📣 It’s official: the largest-ever 4 day week study — covering 10,000+ participants — has just been published in Nature Human Behaviour.

And the findings are groundbreaking 👇

✅ Reduced burnout
✅ Better sleep
✅ Higher job satisfaction
✅ Improved physical + mental health
✅ No drop in income or output

📉 These results weren’t seen in control groups working five days.

It’s more proof that when we work less, we live better.
And that a shorter workweek isn’t just possible — it’s scientifically supported.
