DPVwatch's Amazing Race Actually was Amazing!

Four teams battled it out for the title of DPVwatch's First Amazing Race Winners! The teams wound their way around the community starting at Eco Park, then up to the Quarry, and ending eventually at Freesia Park. And the team that emerged victorious knew their community and its layout really well. Their beagle, Brava, gamely took part in the race as well, earning the team the nickname Team Beagle amongst the patrollers who were at the various key points.

The other teams were nicknamed Team Jack Russel as they had their doggy with them too. Team Adults Only and Team Baby made up the two other teams who battled it out at various points such as Carlyle's (darts); purchasing goods from Spar and handing them in at Nazareth House to be enjoyed by the folks there with their afternoon tea; yoga with Claudia Gurwitz at Yoga in the Hoek; dancing at Good Hope Seminary Junior School with Jacques Carstens and gardening and weeding with the school's gardener, Joseph; planting and weeding at Streetscapes Garden with Miss T and Uncle Richard as well as searching for hidden signs of DPVwatch; completing a quiz about DPV at Rocklands Park (Do you know what the original historical name for Devils Peak was or when Vredehoek was proclaimed??), and finally enjoying yummified pizzas from Bella Italia at Freesia Park!

To add to the safety of the day, Fidelity Adt and City Bowl Armed Response provided a number of cars and officers to keep an eye on the participants. In addition, CBAR donated the services of their paramedic to DPVwatch for the duration of the race.

The teams carried flags from two estate agents, Remax Living and Rawson. This generous sponsorship not only provided much-needed funds for the DPVwatch camera projects currently being undertaken by the Exco, but also enabled the teams to be extremely visible whilst moving through the community.

Some residents who missed out on this one are already looking forward to the next DPVwatch Amazing Race! Keep watching our social media platforms for details of the next one!

EXCITING AND ENTERTAINING EXERCISE FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY OR FRIENDS - and support DPVwatch

DPVwatch invites you to participate in the β€œAmazing DPV Race” on Saturday 30 May 2026. The start time is 09.30.

Teams of 4 will race on foot, navigating about 7km of the neighbourhood through a series of clues, solving riddles, testing skills, and tackling challenges whilst getting to know to some of their Neighbourhood Watch Patrollers along the way.

A team consists of four members, whose combined age is not under 80 years, not over 290 years - unless approved by organisers. (Due to the length of the course, regrettably not suitable for children under 12 years)

Please wear comfy clothing, walking boots/shoes and bring a rain jacket.

Entrance fee is R300 per team (=R75 p/p), which will secure you a spot in a very limited number of participants.

Deadline for entry is Wednesday 26 May 2026, at 17h00. Please email [email protected] if you have any questions or to confirm your entry.

DPVwatch is looking forward to see you there.

Good afternoon to the DPVwatch Community. This message is intended as information and to spark awareness, not to cause fear and panic. DPVwatch would like to share the following:
* Please be alert.
* Three incidents have been recorded since Saturday evening in which two suspects (not necessarily the same two people), operating together, approach the victim. One has a backpack. Be on the lookout for this modus operandi.
* If you notice anything suspicious, call WatchCom on 021 4224222 and report it immediately. Also note the place, time, and what is happening on your DPVwatch Zone Incident group (for live incidents only; comments / chatter on Upper or Lower WhatsApp groups only)

ANOTHER SCAM ALERT❗

Please be alert that scamsters are operating in Upper Orange Street. Today an elderly gentleman had his credit cards stolen near the Bowling Club.
This is the Modus Operandi:
- You are approached and stopped because the President is passing / in the area and you therefore need to pay in order to continue.
- A device is shown into which you have to insert your credit / bank card and key in your PIN.
- Once you have the card in place and have keyed in your PIN, the card is grabbed and the people run away, leaving you with a severely compromised bank account.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
1. Be alert and educated about scams;
2. Never insert your bank card or key in your PIN;
3. Report any such attempts to scam you immediately to your Neighbourhood Watch.
4. Warn family members and friends - especially the elderly and tourists.

The device pictured is an example of what the scamsters use.

THE NATURE OF CRIME IS CYCLICAL!❗❗❗❗❗

The recent spate of copper pipe and water meter thefts reminds us that crimes seem to occur in cycles. In the interests of community safety and awareness, DPVwatch is alerting everyone to the following people that have been noted in the area within the last year and who have conned / scammed residents:

β€’ Eric / William. He has other aliases. He is a very convincing, neat, well-dressed and well-spoken gentleman in his 30s. He approaches residents saying he has been cutting foliage at the home next door and needs to check that all the branches in your garden have been pruned. After you give him access to your property, he proceeds to make off with your items.

β€’ A group of people who have been dubbed β€œThe Kumars”. They have an older model car that seems to have broken down / run out of fuel. They approach residents to ask for financial assistance and can become belligerent when help is refused. They have been noted to operate all over the Peninsula (Hout Bay, City Bowl, Claremont…).

β€’ The Pavement Tar Scamsters! These people caused many headaches during 2025 by claiming to be able to fix damaged pavements for residents, taking advance payment for the work and then leaving a mess as well as with the money. Many residents lost their hard-earned money in this way.

Please be alert and aware. ❗❗❗❗❗❗
