Tomorrow is the celebration of parkrun’s millionth event. Over the last 22 years the following was achieved:

• over 8.3 million people have taken part in parkrun
• more than 1 million people have volunteered
• parkrunners have crossed the finish line 138 million times
• more than 16 million volunteering moments have helped bring events to life each week

Tomorrow Melkbosstrand will be having our 312th parkrun. Thank you to our wonderful volunteers who make it happen. You are indeed one in a million!

Up in the morning before the sun, we’re all going on a 5k run 🎶

Every Saturday morning before parkrun, one or more of our volunteers do a route check and plant our halfway flag. If you’d like to be one of those volunteers, please either respond to this post or send an email to [email protected]. Please note: This is a volunteer role ie you’ll get a volunteer credit but it does NOT count as a run for parkrun results purposes. You’re of course welcome to come back and then participate in the parkrun, notching up a nice little 10k run before breakfast 😁

Thinus Bredenkamp visited us from Kleinevalleij parkrun in Wellington and wrote this beautiful report. Thank you, Thinus, and also for the photograph showing the amazing view parkrunners have when coming back to the finish line. Hope to you see you again soon!

Waves crashing in the background, a refreshing ocean breeze, and the sun only just starting to show its face. What a wonderful way to start a Saturday morning.

As participants gathered ahead of the start, there was a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Friendly volunteers, cheerful conversations, photographs being taken, and plenty of people pausing to admire the view before setting off.

As a first-time visitor, it was easy to see why Melkbosstrand is a favourite among many parkrun tourists.

Melkbosstrand parkrun is certainly a destination worth visiting. On a clear morning like this one, participants are treated to views of Table Mountain in the distance, the fresh ocean air, and even a few river crossings along the route, adding a unique touch to the experience.

One of the things that stood out was the variety of people taking part. Young and old, runners and walkers alike all shared the course, each enjoying the morning in their own way.

Once everyone had crossed the finish line, there was no rush to head home. With several coffee shops and breakfast venues nearby, it was the perfect opportunity to sit down, chat about the morning, and enjoy the seaside atmosphere.

A huge thank you to the volunteers who made the event possible and to everyone who contributed to the welcoming atmosphere.

Melkbosstrand parkrun, we will definitely be visiting again.
