WHEN THE CROW FEELS SICK… IT LOOKS FOR ANTS

Just as you read. When a crow feels unwell, it perches near an ant nest, spreads its wings, stays still, and lets the ants attack it.

They do it for a powerful reason: ants spray its body with formic acid, a substance that acts as a natural antiparasitic. This acid helps the crow eliminate fungi, bacteria, and parasites, allowing it to recover without the need for medicine.

This behavior is called “anting” and has been observed in various bird species. It’s an incredible example of animal self-medication.

Nature never ceases to amaze us with its silent wisdom!

Some valuable info on the great bald eagle to those who didn't know xx

I was surprised while rehabilitating our previous juvenile bald eagles how many people were not aware that Bald Eagles do not get their white feather look until about 5 years of age. Here’s a great description of the feather progression 🦅🦅

My 3 little musketeers xx

Toddles the surrogate mother and matriarch
Bibi my little surrogate brother and Hope my little sparrow babe.

Hope is blind in the right eye, right wing slightly fused, left foot cannot grasp well and a slanted beek but this is a girl with the personality of a trooper. She is always happy, brightening up our days with loads of love and joy. She loves hopping after and grooming the other 2 precious angels.

This photo clearly show how protective they are of her.

"It turns out that pets also have their own "last wishes" before they pass away, something only veterinarians who euthanize old or sick animals are aware of. A Twitter user, Jesse Dietrich, once asked a vet what the most challenging part of their job was. The vet responded without hesitation, explaining that the hardest part is witnessing how old or sick animals search for their owners before they fall asleep forever. Shockingly, 90% of owners choose not to stay in the room during their pet's final moments. They leave, unable to bear watching their beloved companion go. However, what they don’t realize is that these final moments are when their pet needs them the most.

Vets are urging pet owners to stay by their animals' sides until the very end. "It’s inevitable that they will pass before you. Remember, you were the center of their world. They may have been just a part of your life, but to them, you were everything—their family. Even though it’s heartbreaking, don’t abandon them in their final moments. Don’t let them die alone in an unfamiliar room with a stranger. It’s incredibly painful for vets to see pets frantically searching for their owners in their last minutes of life. They don’t understand why they’ve been left behind, and all they need is the comfort of their beloved human.

While veterinarians do everything they can to ease the fear and anxiety of these animals, they are still strangers to them. Don’t let your own pain make you walk away. Be brave for them. Endure that heartache, and stay by their side until the very end. They deserve your love and presence in their final moments.

Remember to clean their safe space as well

The importance of cleaning your parrots cage:

We see so many photos from people where the cages are absolutely covered in p**p and filth.

We thought that it would be a good idea to share a post about this to let people know why it is so important to keep your bird cages clean.

To start with, birds are very messy animals and therefore will naturally create a lot pf mess in and around their cage. You need to keep on top of cleaning for a few reasons:

Bird p**p can make you sick if you let it sit and bacteria build up over the course of time. There’s tons of bacteria in it and naturally a filthy cage will attract insects like flies which brings a whole load of other bacteria into your home. This cycle will continue and continue and the aftermath can kill your parrot.

Birds also have very sensitive respiratory systems so dust build up etc. can make your parrot sick and also cause death.

Over all this can be avoided very easily if you keep on top of cleaning!

How often should you clean your cage:

Well to start of, your parrots food and water bowels should be scrubbed daily to avoid any bad bacteria build up. Would you like to eat breakfast out of a plate covered in yesterday nights dinner?

If you are using newspaper on the bottom pan of the cage you should change it out at least every 3 days if your bird isn’t very messy!

Your cage should be taken apart (remove all the toys, perches, and take it outside) and scrubbed on a regular basis. The minimum would be to do it once a month but twice a month is even better.

Keeping your parrot cage clean is actually very easy, as long as you stay on top of it.
