Sisters 4 Sisters is a non-profit organization (NPO # 072 094) dedicated to helping empower women to lead confident, happy lives free of abuse. In addition to providing a supportive environment for women who have experienced abuse or domestic violence, Sisters 4 Sisters seeks to develop community awareness through workshops and outreach addressing the issues of domestic violence, HIV/AIDS, and eco
nomic independence. In addition, we seek to create a future generation that respects women and battles against domestic violence through youth education programs for both young girls and boys. Based in Cape Town, South Africa, Sisters 4 Sisters was founded in 2008 by Eunice Oyugi, when she felt the overwhelming need to open up her home to support and uplift other women who had also survived abuse. It began as a simple support group where women could discuss their struggles and draw strength from one another. The group expanded rapidly as word spread from one abused woman to the next, and women were referred to the group by the police. Recognizing the high demand for an organization of this sort, Eunice created Sisters 4 Sisters and began running workshops in the Woodstock area to encourage women to free themselves from their abusers and teach them important coping skills. Soon, members of the group started their own branches in the communities of Nonzamo, Langa, and Westlake. Now, Sisters 4 Sisters seeks to expand our programs to meet address the growing needs of abused women in Africa. Many women face difficult life situations involving a violent and potentially deadly family member, yet support options remain critically limited. Sisters 4 Sisters is dedicated to creating alternatives for battered women by nurturing hope and self-respect, whilst providing opportunities for abused women to share and encourage each other through the challenges of life’s journey.
