Isibindi

Isibindi Isibindi is a non-profit company that provides places and spaces where youth can feel part of a commu Jy is altyd welkom om by ons te kom kuier.

(English below)

Isibindi is an NPC that was known as ECHO Cape town between 2013-2020 and was part of the Echo youth development family that originally originated in Pretoria - In 2020 we established an NPC that specifically focuses on the projects in the Cape town. Since 2001, Echo has provided communes where young people in need (from orphanages, rehabilitation centers, the street, etc.) can move into a house with young working adults and thus become part of a supportive community. The South Africa's Children's Act only provides shelter for children under 18 - after that they have to take care of themselves - and therefore the need for such homes is immense. Isibindi consists of 4 houses for young people in need (2 in Tableview, 1 in Ysterplaat and 1 in Stellenbosch), and also an aftercare center in Ysterplaat that has been operating since May 2018. There are 5 to 8 young people in need between the ages of 18 and 25 in the homes and the aftercare consists of 20 vulnerable children between the ages of 10 and 18. We try to cultivate a type of ‘intentional community’ lifestyle in the communes. This just means that we let people stay together who would normally never end up in a house together. When they do stay together, they realize they can actually learn quite a lot from each other. The communes usually consist of two groups of people who become part of the community with two (initially divergent) motives:
1) The one group comes knocking because they have no support base and seek help.
2) The others because they are excited about this alternative way of life and the opportunity to make a contribution. Time and time again we see that those in need, who initially only wanted help, realize that they can help others as well and that those who thought they were just coming to help realize that they actually have a lot to learn. You are always welcome to come and give us a visit. Our vision: Isibindi aims to create places and spaces where youth from difficult or disadvantaged backgrounds can feel a part of a community and from this courageously find their purpose and passion. We strive to be a family with ISIBINDI.

☀️Meet the skaters of our community🛹

On Saturday the group met for the first time. Some of the girls were already confident skaters and hopped straight on their boards, while others stepped onto a skateboard for the very first time. By the end of the session, some of the first-timers were already riding on their own! 🙌

A huge thank you to High Tides Holistic Club for providing our amazing coach, and Atlantic Surf Collective for supplying the skateboards and safety gear. We are so grateful for your support in making opportunities like this possible!

The team will be skating together once a month. Want to join the next one? Pm us and we will add you to the group.

Come join the fun, learn something new and be part of the Isibindi skating crew. 🫶

🏕️ SPONSOR A CHILD FOR our aftercare summer CAMP!

We’re taking our aftercare kids on camp not just for a weekend away, but for an opportunity to broaden their perspectives, challenge their worldviews and experience something beyond what they know.

For many of our children, experiences like this are not something they get to take for granted. Camp gives them the chance to explore, learn, laugh, build friendships, discover new possibilities and simply be kids.

How you can contribute:
💛 R500 sponsors one child for the camp.
⛺ We also need tents, so if you have one please reach out.

Send us a message, and help us create a shared memory that will last forever☀️

What a weekend in Noordhoek with the Isibindi afterschool houses✨

Our annual Isibindi Camp over the weekend was one to remember!

As we journeyed through the Manna & Mercy course by Alan Storey, we were reminded that we are all part of God’s bigger story.
Between the sessions, some of the most meaningful moments happened around the table, Sharing meals, laughing together, having honest conversations and encouraging one another. Simply being present reminded us that community is one of the greatest gift we can give each other🍃

✨ Term 3, here we come! ✨

After a well-deserved break, we’re back with fresh energy, big dreams, and ready to make a difference.

As schools reopen and routines begin again, we’re excited to welcome our children and youth back for Term 3 of 2026.

New energy, new goals, and another term of learning, growing, and becoming.

Let’s do this! 💛
