We gave them random pictures and they turned them into powerful stories based their lives.

This moment reminded us how important it is to create safe spaces for children to express, reflect, and be heard.

Not every young person can express how they feel with words. But give them a picture and suddenly, their world opens up.

This storytelling moment was more than an activity, it was reflection, expression, and healing in its simplest form.

Grateful to have been part of this incredible 3 day karate camp, pouring into young minds and championing mental health where it matters most.

Even when we’re quiet online, trust that we are doing the work — one space, one conversation, one life at a time.

From humble beginnings to purpose-driven spaces

Growing up in an underserved community, raised by a single mother who did everything in her power to give us access to better opportunities, I learned early on the value of exposure. She enrolled us in schools outside our community, believing that a different environment could shape a different future — and she was right. That belief planted a seed in me: to become someone who creates access for others, especially young people who are often overlooked.

That mission was deeply affirmed during the Live Master Class hosted by . The session challenged us to think beyond passion and step into purpose with structure. We explored what it takes to build sustainable, values-driven organizations, and the importance of doing the internal work, not just in our organizations, but within ourselves.

One of the most impactful takeaways was the conversation around brand alignment, the courage it takes to say “no” to opportunities that don’t align with your values, and the discipline to build something that is rooted in who you truly are. We also unpacked how to transform painful life experiences into platforms that enrich others and interrupt generational cycles of struggle.

These kinds of spaces remind me why I do the work I do. It’s a constant reminder that purpose isn’t just about what you feel — it’s about what you build, who you serve, and the legacy you leave behind.

No child should ever experience such horror, especially in a place meant to nurture and protect them. Schools are supposed to be safe spaces, not sites of trauma.

As Jaay Blacks Youth Platform Foundation, we stand in solidarity with Cwecwe’s family and every survivor of gender-based violence. We demand accountability, action, and justice, not just for Cwecwe but for every child who has suffered in silence.

We refuse to let this be another forgotten case. Our children deserve better.
