On Thursday, 26 February 2026, the Black Management Forum hosted a powerful and thought-provoking book launch with HR Leader and Author Lerato Thabe for her book _The Truth About Corporate South Africa.

Drawing from over 14 years of HR experience, Lerato unpacked the realities of corporate South Africa and the lived experiences of employees within the system. She posed a critical question to fellow HR Professionals: How are we truly feeling about the state of corporate today? The panel unpacked the weak risk management practices, policies that exist on paper but fail in practice, and the systemic bullying embedded within corporate structures. The conversation also confronted the racial dynamics shaping economic participation, including disparities in government procurement and the broader systemic effects on access and opportunity.

The evening was a bold call to rethink corporate culture, strengthen people-centered risk management, and build inclusive, ethical business practices, particularly within emerging black-owned enterprises. The Black Management Forum reaffirmed its commitment to supporting black entrepreneurs, ensuring that SMEs do not replicate the same harmful corporate patterns but instead build inclusive, ethical and sustainable business models.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our valued partner and sponsor, SMTAX, for your unwavering support in making this impactful evening possible.

The launch was not just about a book. It was a bold call to confront systemic challenges, rethink corporate culture and intentionally build structures that truly serve people.

The Black Economic Agenda Under Scrutiny – Tackling the Intertwined Issue of Poverty, Inequality, and Unemployment.

South Africa’s economy is not in crisis – it is in contradiction. For every statistical gain in GDP, millions are pushed deeper into poverty. For every policy on transformation, a parallel reality of exclusion persists. The Black Economic Agenda was never just a call for access, it was a demand for redesign. Yet today, that agenda stands at a crossroads: co-opted by elite interests on one side, and eroded by institutional fatigue on the other. If we are serious about equity, we must return to the original purpose – to rewire the economy so that it works for the majority, not despite them.
