Last week, we brought our kindergarten principals together for our very first get-together — a day filled with sharing, learning, laughter and lots of fun! 💙🩵

Over breakfast and lunch, the ladies openly shared their challenges and needs, explored the art materials for our Tree Project, and learnt some fun activities to take back to their children.

And, of course, there was plenty of laughter! 🎶 We learnt and sang “Every Single Cell Inside My Body” — and had so much fun together 🎶😂

What stood out most was the energy in the room. The principals left feeling heard, encouraged, motivated and inspired. We all did 🧡💛

🌳 When we strengthen the foundations, futures can grow 💚

📚 INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY

A small book can open a very big door 🩵 🧡

During September, A Reaching Hand visits schools in our disadvantaged communities to celebrate literacy and encourage children to discover the joy and importance of reading.

Each learner receives a Literacy Pack with:
📖 A reading book
🎨 A colouring book
🖍️ Crayons
🍎 A snack

But the pack is about more than books 📖 📖 📖
It is about giving children confidence, imagination and the opportunity to dream.

Because when a child learns to read, a whole world of possibilities opens up. 🌍✨

Let’s grow a love of reading — one child, one book and one "Growing Future" at a time. 🌱📖

What a FUN-filled day at Sino❣️

Our little ones were treated to a magical visit from Magnet Theatre, who bring interactive, multi-sensory theatre experiences to children in disadvantaged township communities. Followed by a visit to the library for some storytelling 🩵

The smiles, laughter and excitement said it all! Thank you, Magnet Theater, for bringing such joy and wonder to our children. 🌟🧡

Moving words we received this week from one of the mothers in our township community. Now during winter, makes it even more challenging to get to work and school.

LIFE IN A TOWNSHIP: 6:30AM 🌙

The streets don’t wake up with sunrise here. They wake up with footsteps.

A young man pulls his jersey tighter. Winter bites. It’s still dark. 6:30AM. Work won’t wait.

His mom walks him to the corner. Torch in one hand. Prayer in the other. "Go and do well, my child." She only turns back once she knows he’s safe.

Then comes the queue. The same queue. The same cold. The same hope.

Hoodies. Beanies. Shivering bodies. Waiting for the taxi that means another day. Another opportunity.

No glamour. Just grit. A mother’s love guiding her child through the darkness.

A queue that is really faith in tomorrow.

Life in a township. It’s hard. It’s early. It’s cold…
But we still show up. We keep moving forward. 💪🏽

When the Rain Stops, the Real Struggle Starts.

After the major storm last week, we assisted our beneficiaries in the township as they began picking up the pieces. Most people only see the storm itself, but what we witnessed went far beyond rebuilding walls and roofs.

Heartbreaking to see the exhaustion on the faces of parents. The weight of uncertainty. The silent struggles. The quiet panic of trying to stay strong while everything feels like it is falling apart. Many are facing the emotional shock of losing things that already took years to build and replace.

Then there are our teenagers, becoming emergency adults and forced into survival roles, caring for younger siblings while parents search for help. Young people in our townships carry more responsibility than most people realise. Their strength deserves to be seen. Hiding their fear to stay strong, while learning responsibility through crisis.

“The storm didn’t only damage walls. It damaged the little stability families fought so hard to build.”
