Community Women Action

Community Women Action Community Women Action was established in 1999 situated in Eersterivier. From this spirit of cooperation the CWA was born.

Our vision is to empower communities to become self reliant & able to not only sustain themselves, but become self-employed.
The organization operated from a container operated by the Department of Social Development and Poverty Alleviation and later bought an old house which was refurbished by volunteers from the organisation and surrounding communities.

A desire to facilitate the inclusion of women from all religious and cultural backgrounds brought about the name change to Community Women Action, which was previously known as Christian Women Action.

Pssst... Ready for another 💫SUCCESS STORY💫?

In 2000, Maudene was unemployed and raising a child. Like many people facing uncertainty, she was asking herself one question:

"What now?"

One opportunity changed everything.

After completing a CWA training programme, Maudene gained practical skills, confidence, and experience that opened doors to employment in the catering industry. Today, she is a Supervisor and continues to build a brighter future for herself and her family.

Stories like Maudene's remind us that empowerment is not just about training, it's about creating opportunities, restoring hope, and helping people discover what they are capable of achieving.

What is one opportunity that changed your life?

Time for another Success Story!

Meet Michelle Avontuur 🌟

In 2019, Michelle Avontuur was selected to participate in our Assistant Chef Programme, where she gained valuable culinary skills, hands-on experience, and the confidence to pursue her dreams.

Armed with determination and a passion for food, Michelle went on to start her own business and opened a takeaway shop, MMMM Kitchen, serving delicious meals to her community. Today, she is successfully running her own food business and inspiring others through her entrepreneurial journey.

We are incredibly proud of Michelle's achievements and the dedication she has shown in turning her skills into a thriving business. Her story is a wonderful example of how opportunity, hard work, and perseverance can create lasting success.

Congratulations, Michelle! We wish you continued growth and success in your business journey ☺️

Success Story Spotlight: Thomas Daniels 👨🏽‍🍳💫

From starting his journey in the Assistant Chef Training Programme in 2018 to now leading the kitchen as Head Chef at Spanish Farm Boutique Hotel, Thomas Daniels’ growth is a true reflection of dedication, persistence, and passion for the culinary arts.

After completing his training at CWA, Thomas went on to build his experience as a Sous Chef at the beautiful Gorgeous George Boutique Hotel, where he continued to refine his skills and develop his craft. Today, he proudly serves as Head Chef at Spanish Farm Boutique Hotel, leading with confidence and creativity in the kitchen.

We are incredibly proud of Thomas and his journey, and we hope his story inspires others to take that first step: build skills, stay committed, and keep pushing toward your goals.

This past Tuesday, CWA hosted an exciting hands-on training workshop focused on empowering young women through entrepreneurship and practical skills development!

The women from our community had the opportunity to learn how to create cosmetic products and lotions using everyday kitchen equipment, showing that starting a business does not always require expensive tools or resources.

The workshop introduced skills that can open doors for young women interested in becoming entrepreneurs and creating products to sell within their communities.

A special thank you to Tessa and Debbie from Lizential for partnering with us and generously sharing your time, resources, and expertise with our participants. Your contribution made this learning experience both meaningful and inspiring ✨

Check out the snaps below and see our ladies in action as they learned, created, and explored new opportunities ☺️

Help us turn flour into hope this Mandela Day ❤️🍞

Every bag of flour donated helps CWA bake more loaves of bread to share with individuals and families in need within our community. Small acts of kindness can create a meaningful impact, and together we can make sure more people receive a warm meal and support this Mandela Day.

Donate flour and help us bake, share, and care.
