Beyond Bars Akademia We are Beyond Bars Akademia or BBA, a bartending school with social consciousness. We offer fully customisable trainings to individuals and former inmates.

BBA project is a 6 months’ pre-employment program aiming at training 10 female former convicts from Pollsmoor Prison. They will be selected us and trained into world class bartenders/sommeliers/ FOH/ Baristas. We offer to those women 6 months of training and place them in a full-time position at one of our various partners. Their time iisdivided between theoretical class and practice at various ba

rs, hotels or restaurants, plus community service helping charities all over town. Our training course which covers the basics on hospitality training. From customer service to sommelier training give them the chance to variate between theoretical and practical courses. Helping them building a stronger case when they face employment. Adding to this, our life skills segment which aims at enhancing their cognitive department with courses such as conflict prevention, creative writing, coding or even food science

An education with a social conscience

Beyond Bars Akademia or BBA is a hospitality school for rehabilitating women ex-offenders through experimental learning processes involving multi-disciplinary courses and cross-disciplinary education methods.

We, at Beyond Bars offer the chance to ten women former inmates to be enrolled as apprentices and subsequently be granted job placement, as part of our programme called: Beyond Bars Project.

We differentiate ourselves by offering a complete but "out of the box" way of educating our students, namely The Social Bespoke Experience Method (SBE).

Most of the usual training programmes in schools are offered in blocks, which (ideally) enables them to touch recipients at different levels and allows trainees to acquire a new set of skills and gain cognitive skills such as problem-solving.
