🚧 Platteklip Gorge Trail Maintenance Notice 🚧

Please note that SANParks will be conducting maintenance on the Platteklip Gorge Hiking Trail from 17 to 21 August 2026.

The affected section is between the Contour Path and the summit of Table Mountain (see attached map highlighted in red).

The trail will be closed on Monday, 17 August 2026.

Alternative access to the summit from the front face:
✅ Table Mountain Aerial Cableway.

For information: A 13-year-old boy was robbed of his watch and jacket while descending from Elsie’s Peak ahead of his parents on the Glencairn side at approximately 12:50 today. Rangers have been informed.

Suspect Description:

- Black male
- Tall, slim build
- Long dreadlocks extending past his shoulders
- Wearing a white tank top

The suspect was seen running into the mountain towards Elsie’s Peak from the Glencairn side.

⚠️ REMINDER: Temporary Closure of Lion’s Head Jeep Track ⚠️

The public is reminded that the Jeep Track at Lion’s Head remains temporarily closed to facilitate essential maintenance work.

📅 Project Timeline:

• Closure in effect: 20 April 2026 – 20 June 2026 (subject to weather and project progress)
• Machinery will be transported to site on 28 April 2026
• Maintenance work will commence on 29 April 2026

Due to the complex terrain, work is expected to take up to 2 months or less, as the area cannot accommodate large volumes of machinery at once.

🚫 Access:
The Jeep Track remains closed to the public during this period.

🥾 Alternative routes to Lion’s Head Summit remain open:
• Kramat Trail (Signal Hill Road)
• Upper Rhine Road Trail
• Kloof Road Trail

🅿️ Parking:
Lion’s Head parking area remains available for those using the Kramat route.

This maintenance project is aimed at improving trail safety and enhancing the overall visitor experience.

We urge all visitors to adhere to signage and safety instructions while work is underway.

Regular updates will be shared.
