The Labour Research Service (LRS) is a membership-based labour support organisation established in 1986. We stand for:

> the development of our member unions and the trade union movement in South Africa and in Africa.

> working class leaders, both formal and informal – the shop steward, the organiser, and the negotiator that seek to organise and represent workers in a world of work that has cha

nged profoundly over time and which continues to change.

> worker leaders who are open to renewing their strategy and approaches to bargaining and organising.

> inspiring workers to believe in and exercise their individual and collective power in the struggle for social and economic justice. LRS provides research and capabilities development for trade unions in different areas, including:

> Grassroots leadership development and support
> Collective bargaining and organising support
> Building cultures of gender equality in the workplace and the union
> Responding to gender-based violence in the workplace and communities
> Supporting the development of regional trade union networks to challenge the power of multinational corporations
> Delivering innovative online resources for worker leaders

On International Women’s Day, care workers in South Africa send solidarity greetings to care workers across the world, and to all women workers who sustain our communities.

We demand recognition, dignity and decent work for all care workers. We are the hands that heal and the hearts that hold. Honour the work that makes us whole.

Happy International Women’s Day from care workers in South Africa!

In solidarity,
Community Health Workers, Food Handlers, and Early Childhood Development (ECD) Practitioners

Today, 7 February, we mark the inaugural Care Workers’ Day.

Care workers are the backbone of our communities, yet their labour remains undervalued, underpaid and invisible.

This day exists to:
• Honour the work that makes us whole
• Make care work visible
• Demand dignity, decent work and recognition

We call on trade unions, civil society, government, and communities to stand with care workers.

Care workers are not volunteers.
Care work is work.
Justice for care workers cannot wait.
