Honouring Ageing Through Connection and Creativity

At Be the Salt and Light NPC, we believe that ageing should be accompanied by dignity, connection, and active participation—not isolation.

Through our community-based applied theatre programmes, we create spaces where older persons can:

Share their stories and lived experiences
Engage in meaningful recreational and psychosocial activities
Build connections across generations
Access awareness on their rights, safety, and well-being

From Trauma to Transformation

At Be the Salt and Light NPC, we support young adults (18–35) affected by violence, trauma, and GBV through community-based psychosocial programmes aligned with the Victim Empowerment Programme.

Using applied theatre, we create safe spaces for:

Healing and emotional expression
Building resilience and coping skills
Strengthening relationships and preventing re-victimisation

This is not performance—it’s structured healing and behaviour change.

Strengthening Youth Resilience Through Applied Theatre

Across the Western Cape, many young adults face substance abuse risk, gender-based violence exposure, unemployment, and weak family systems—challenges that are deeply interconnected.

Be the Salt and Light NPC, a registered NPC and PBO, uses community-based psychosocial programmes to respond to these realities.

Applied theatre as a tool for change

Applied theatre is a structured approach that uses storytelling, role-play, and reflection to support personal growth and behavioural change. It helps young people:

Build emotional resilience
Improve decision-making
Strengthen communication and relationships
Break harmful behaviour cycles
Beyond the individual

The process also strengthens family systems by improving understanding, communication, and connection within households.

At its core, this work creates safe spaces for reflection and growth—helping young people shift patterns and build healthier futures for themselves and their communities.
