FoodForward SA is proud to be the Eco-Logic Awards 2026 gold award winner in the Circular Economy & Waste Innovation category!

The award acknowledges our work to address food and nutrition insecurity by recovering quality surplus food and redirecting it to communities that need it. By keeping valuable food in circulation, food recovery helps conserve the resources used to produce it while supporting communities across South Africa.

Andy Du Plessis, MD of FoodForward SA, accepted the award on behalf of the team at the Eco-Logic Awards ceremony held on 5 October at the Two Oceans Aquarium in Cape Town. “Thank you to the Eco-Logic Awards for acknowledging the work of FoodForward SA, along with so many other innovative organisations. We are grateful for this recognition and proud of our dedicated staff who make this work possible every day.”

This award celebrates the important connection between circular economy solutions, climate action and food security, and the impact we can achieve by keeping good food in circulation and getting it to where it is needed most.

The International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste on 29 September is an opportunity to recognise what is possible when we do more with the food we already produce.

But awareness must lead to action. We need more role players across the food system to participate, collaborate, and advocate for the changes needed to recover more surplus food and get it to underserved communities.

Since 2009, FoodForward SA has demonstrated that recovering surplus food is a practical solution that operates at scale. The opportunity is clear: scale what works even further, turn surplus into food security, and reduce the environmental impact of food loss and waste.
