The impact of Mandela Day extends far beyond a single day.

We're proud to share these highlights from a remarkable day where more than 5,200 volunteers joined forces to sort and pack over 300 tonnes of nutritious food, helping provide 1.2 million meals.

FoodForward SA's Food Gardens Connect programme equips unemployed community members with the skills and support to establish their own community gardens and creates an income generation opportunity.

Through practical training, and the provision of seedlings, equipment, mentorship, along with a guaranteed buy back of their surplus harvests, the programme is helping build stronger, more resilient communities.

What happens when 5,200 people each give just 67 minutes? They help pack 1.2 million meals!

Across Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town, more than 5,200 volunteers came together to sort and pack over 300 tonnes of nutritious food, proving that small acts of service can create an extraordinary impact.

Last Friday, our South Africa teams came together to honour Mandela Day by giving their time, supporting their communities and making every minute count.

Inspired by Madiba's legacy, colleagues across Smollan spent 67 minutes creating meaningful impact through small acts of kindness. From working side by side to lending a helping hand, the day was a powerful reminder that positive change starts with people.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who volunteered their time, energy and enthusiasm. We're proud of the difference our teams made together and grateful to everyone who helped bring the day to life.

Sixty-seven minutes doesn't sound like much, until you see what a room full of people can pack in that time.

Unitrans employees volunteered with FoodForward SA for Mandela Day, with the Gauteng team packing food parcels at the Gallagher Convention Centre and the Cape Town team joining the initiative at Century City. Together, teams from both cities spent their 67 minutes packing food for people who need it.

Our team's contribution supports FoodForward SA's mission to fight hunger across South Africa.
