Iliso Care Society

Iliso Care Society A community based non-profit organisation within Khayelitsha, Cape Town that provides educational pr ICS was initiated by Mrs. Vivian Zilo in June 2005.

liso Care Society is situated in Site C in the township of Khayelitsha. Khayelitsha is a large community outside of the city of Cape Town, located 25 kilometers from the city centre. With the help of four other women she began providing services to her community. She knew from her work as a research assistant for Stellenbosch University (Vivian did site visits and counseling in the area) that those suffering from HIV/AIDS were often too weak to be take the medicine she administered, because of undernourishment. She decided to start the work of Iliso in the area were the need was the greatest. It started out as a soup kitchen, but soon the project expanded to include helping school children, providing safety and care for orphans and vulnerable children. Further, Iliso Care Society also organizes workshops for youth to help them cope with problems they face in the community.

Our little ones visited the Iziko South African Museum in Cape Town and the excitement and joy was out of this world🐋🦕

This outing was learning through play. It sparked curiosity, language, creativity, confidence and love for our heritage.

We are very proud of our five participants. They have completed the 6-week training course with FoodForward SA. They learned how to grow their own food. They learned about soil, composting, planting seeds, pest control and preparing garden beds. They worked very hard and we are proud of them.

Thank you to FoodForward SA for your continued support. You are helping us fight hunger and create jobs in our community. Now our gardeners will get mentorship and they can sell their harvest to earn income. Together we are growing people and growing food.

Today, our organisation had the honour of being invited to Radio Zibonele FM 98.2 to share the work we do in supporting people living with disabilities.

It was a privilege to be part of such an important conversation and to highlight the services we provide, including home-based care, EPWP employment opportunities, sewing ,skills development and food nutrition support.

We believe that people living with disabilities are valued members of our communities. While they may face different challenges, they have the same rights, dreams, talents, and potential as everyone else. We are committed to creating opportunities that promote dignity, inclusion, independence, and equal participation.

Every person deserves to be seen, heard, respected, and empowered. We remain dedicated to building an inclusive society where no one is left behind and where people living with disabilities are recognised for their abilities rather than their limitations.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Radio Zibonele for giving us the platform to raise awareness and advocate for a more inclusive community. Together, we can continue to break barriers, challenge stereotypes, and create opportunities for all.
