The Pinelands CPF Members Meeting was held last night at SASNEV Huis der Nederlanden, where members and stakeholders engaged on a range of safety and security matters affecting the Pinelands precinct. Key focus areas included the review of recent incident trends and crime pattern analyses, with discussion around emerging hotspots, repeat offences, and peak timeframes identified through reported cases and operational feedback. Members considered the practical implications for visibility, patrol planning and community reporting, and agreed on the importance of continued information-sharing and coordinated responses between SAPS, Law Enforcement, neighbourhood watches and local stakeholders.

⚠️ 𝗪𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥 𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚: 𝗣𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗘 𝗞𝗘𝗘𝗣 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗟𝗦 𝗦𝗔𝗙𝗘

The South African Weather Service has issued a 𝗬𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝟮 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 for severe thunderstorms expected on 𝗪𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝟮𝟯 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿, affecting Cape Town and other parts of the Western Cape.

The thunderstorms may bring 𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗹, 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀 of between 40 and 55 km/h. Localised power disruptions, property damage and possible injuries to people and animals are also anticipated.

Please make preparations for your animals before the weather arrives. Bring pets indoors wherever possible and provide them with a safe, dry and secure place away from the noise of the storm. Check gates and fencing carefully, as frightened animals may attempt to escape during thunder and lightning.

𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗱𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱, 𝘁𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿.

Farm animals and livestock should also have access to suitable shelter and be moved away from areas vulnerable to flooding or lightning where possible.

Please also keep an eye out for animals in your community who may be exposed to the severe weather.

Our safety workshops for seniors are currently underway, with the PNW visiting six senior residences across our community during September.

The initiative follows an approach from SAPS Pinelands, who reached out to us regarding the increasing risks faced by seniors from online scams and fraud, and asked us to assist in helping our senior community stay safer and better informed.

Presented by Easy Tech Buddy, the workshops focus on practical, everyday online safety helping seniors recognise scams and fraud attempts, browse more securely, stay safer on social media and better understand and manage the devices they use every day.

We’re pleased to have Seeff Pinelands sponsoring the full workshop programme, making it possible for us to take these sessions directly to our senior community. Their support has helped us turn an idea into a practical community initiative reaching residents where they live.

The workshops are still under way until the end of September, after which we’ll share more about the programme, the sessions and some of the lessons and experiences learnt.

A big thank you to Seeff Pinelands for supporting this initiative, to Easy Tech Buddy for presenting the workshops and to the participating senior homes for welcoming us and helping us make online safety a little less intimidating and a lot more accessible.
