Forest and landscape restoration is not optional 🌳
We cannot meet global climate, biodiversity, or food security goals without rapidly scaling up how we protect and restore our lands. The latest State of the World’s Forests report highlights the urgent scale of the challenge and the path forward:
📉 The Challenge:
Over 460 million hectares of forests and 1.56 billion hectares of land are degraded globally.
We have lost approximately 489 million hectares to deforestation since 1990.
Wildfires affect around 127 million hectares of forest every single year.
🌍 Why Forests Matter:
Forests hold 714 gigatonnes of carbon, serving as vital climate buffers.
Forests are home to up to 80% of all terrestrial biodiversity.
Nearly 1 in 3 people globally depend on forests and trees for food, fuel, and income.
Restoring our forests is an investment in our shared future!
