Friday Share: Meet The Team

"Hi, I am Dr Phenyo Munyadziwa and I’ve clocked into research as Medical Officer at Vuka Research. I hold an MBChB (UCT) and a Postgraduate Diploma in HIV & TB Management (UCT), and I am currently completing a Master of Public Health specializing in Epidemiology and Biostatistics (UCT).

My passion lies in helping people. As a junior doctor, I realized that bedside medicine, while deeply meaningful, limits me to helping one patient at a time. This inspired me to pursue research and public health, where I can contribute to improving health outcomes on a much larger scale.

Both my research project and my current role At Vuka Research, gave me the opportunity to combine both aspects of medicine that I value most — direct patient care and impactful clinical research. It continues to reinforce my commitment to contributing to healthcare not only at the individual patient level, but also at population level through evidence-based research."

Welcome to Vuka Dr PM!✌️

Friday Share: Meet The Team

"My name is Ame-Leigh Daniels, and I’m a Laboratory Technician at Vuka.

I hold a Master’s degree in Medical Biosciences, where my passion for academia and clinical research truly came together. My MSc project focused on developing a potential diagnostic tool to detect neutralizing antibodies against SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for COVID-19. Through this work, I gained a deeper appreciation for the important role that both research and clinical practice play in developing effective healthcare solutions for infectious diseases.

Vuka embodies the importance of collaboration between researchers and communities in the fight against infectious diseases. This mission strongly resonates with the values I hold dear, both professionally and personally, and I’m excited to be part of a team dedicated to making a meaningful impact.”

Friday Share: Meet The Team

"Hi, I’m Nelisiwe Mngadi, an Administrative Assistant at Vuka, also known as the “running enthusiast”😄.

My career journey in healthcare began in 2017 when I worked for an NGO supporting TB/HIV patients in a primary health care setting. Through that experience, I developed a deep passion for serving and working within communities.

In February 2026, I joined Vuka and started my journey in the research field for the first time. Although research was completely new to me, the experience has been both educational and rewarding. I continue to learn every day and have grown to love working in a research environment.

What I enjoy most is being surrounded by people who are passionate about making a positive change in the community and improving the lives of others.”

WELCOME TO THE VUKA FAMILY NELLY! ✌️

Friday Share: Meet The Team

Hi everyone 👋
My name is Ngcwelekazi Mvinjelwa, and my journey with Vuka started in 2023 — not as a staff member, but as a participant in the PrEP study.
What began as curiosity became something much bigger. Being part of the PURPOSE 1 study opened my eyes to the importance of HIV prevention and helped me understand clinical research in a way I never had before. I developed a strong interest in learning more and growing within this space.
Today, I am proud to be serving as an intern at Vuka. My journey is proof that sometimes opportunities come in unexpected ways — and when you are open to learning, doors can open beyond what you imagined.
I’m grateful to be part of a team that is making a real difference in the community.
