OPSOMMING VAN ONS EPOS AAN NASIONAAL:

Ons het ons volledige voorlegging met ondersteunende dokumente aan die Nasionale Vergadering en LP’s gestuur.

👉 Wat ons gestuur het:

* Die memorandum (19 Februarie)
* Bewys van 15 000+ handtekeninge teen die verkoop
* Bewys van 1 000+ e-posse van inwoners aan Subraad 1
* Verslae en dokumente oor die geskiedenis en besluite rondom Erf 8813
* Die kennisgewing van hersonering

👉 Wat ons gesê het:

* Die eiendom is Erf 8813 as geheel, nie net die Thusong-gebou nie
* Die saak is nie behoorlik bespreek op Subraadvlak nie
* Daar was gebrek aan behoorlike konsultasie met gemeenskap
* Geen besluite moet geneem word sonder die gemeenskap nie

Dieselfde inligting is ook aan die Openbare Beskermer gestuur weke gelede, maar tot op hede is daar nog geen terugvoer ontvang nie.

SUMMARY OF OUR EMAIL TO NATIONAL PARLIAMENT

We have sent our full submission with supporting documents to the National Assembly and Members of Parliament.

👉 What we sent:

* The memorandum (19 February)
* Proof of 15,000+ signatures opposing the sale
* Proof of 1,000+ resident emails to Subcouncil 1
* Reports and documents on the history and decisions around Erf 8813
* The rezoning notice

👉 What we said:

* The property is Erf 8813 as a whole, not just the Thusong building
* The matter was not properly debated at Subcouncil level
* There has been a lack of proper consultation with the community
* No decisions should be made without the community

The same information was also submitted to the Public Protector (weeks ago), and to date, no response has been received.

SAVE THUSONG UPDATE

Gemeenskap van Atlantis, Mamre, Pella, Witsand, en omliggende gebiede

Ons het ons saak oor Erf 8813 (Thusong Sentrum) aan die Nasionale Parlementslede gestuur met duidelike boodskap dat ons as gemeenskap die verkope teenstaan.

* Die Kantoor van die Speaker het ontvangs erken
* Party kantore het dit aan Members of Parliament aangestuur
* Ons het versoek van Speaker se kantoor om dit met alle aktiewe LP’s te deel omdat sommige eposse "ge-bounce" het.

Die Nasionale Petisiekantoor het gevra vir bewys dat ons die saak met die Stad opgeneem het en hul reaksie.
👉 Ons het dit en stuur dit vanaand/more terug sodat die proses kan voortgaan.

We have submitted our case on Erf 8813 (Thusong Centre) to the National Assembly and Members of Parliament, with clear evidence that we as the community oppose the sale.

* The Office of the Speaker has acknowledged receipt
* Some offices have forwarded it to MPs
* We have requested the Speaker's office please share our email with all active MPs because some emails bounced.

The National Petitions Office asked for proof that we raised the matter with the City and their response.
👉 We have this and are submitting it tonight/ tomorrow so the process can continue.

Atlantis good mornings...

I want to raise something important about the recent title deed announcements in Atlantis.

If I was one of the beneficiaries, I would be extremely uncomfortable seeing my full name, my spouse’s name, and my home address being shared publicly and circulated online.

This is not just an announcement... it’s personal information!

We live in a time where privacy and safety matter. So by sharing addresses publicly can expose families to unnecessary risk.

Also, listing spouses raises other concerns:
What if someone has lost a partner?
What if they are divorced or separated?
What if the information is outdated?

Surely there are more respectful and secure ways to handle this.

If the City of Cape Town has people’s details, why not contact them directly or arrange collection privately... better yet, you have the addresses, so deliver it no...
Instead of putting their personal information into public spaces?

This is not about being ungrateful. But it is about dignity, privacy, and safety.

We can celebrate progress without exposing people.

Let’s do better.

12.03.2026 - SAVE THUSONG FEEDBACK

Goeienaand Atlantis, Mamre, Pella, Witsand en Omliggende gebiede

Ons is paar weke gelede ingekopie op ’n e-pos, toe ons memorandum deur die Subraad 1-bestuurder na die Stad Kaapstad gestuur is.

Vandag is ons weer op ’n e-pos ingekopie, maar uit die terugvoer van die Direktoraat: Korporatiewe Dienste blyk dit dat die memorandum nog nie by die Petisiebestuurstelsel-afdeling uitgekom het nie, omdat hulle volgens die e-pos nie op die oorspronklike kommunikasie ingekopie was nie.

Dit beteken daar is op hierdie stadium nog geen inhoudelike terugvoer oor die memorandum nie.

Ons wag nou dat die memorandum deur die korrekte proses na die Petisiebestuurstelsel gestuur word sodat dit amptelik hanteer kan word.

Ons sal die gemeenskap op hoogte hou sodra daar verdere ontwikkelinge is.

Ons volgende stap:
Môre stuur ons ’n brief na die Nasionale Vergadering vir alle Lede van die Parlement om:

* Kennis te neem van die situasie rondom die verkoop van Thusong, en

* Aan te dui of enige van hulle moontlik kan ingryp en die gemeenskap kan bystaan.

A few weeks ago, we were copied on an email when our memorandum was sent to the City of Cape Town by the Subcouncil 1 manager.

Today we were copied again on a response from the Directorate: Corporate Services . From the email it appears that the memorandum has not yet reached the Petitions Management department, as they indicated that they were not copied on the original communication.

This means that, at this stage, there is still no substantive feedback on the memorandum itself.

We are now awaiting confirmation that the memorandum will be forwarded through the correct process to the Petitions Management System so that it can be formally processed.

We will keep the community informed as soon as there are further developments.

Our next step:
Tomorrow we will send a letter to the National Assembly for all Members of Parliament to:

- Take note of the situation around the sale of Thusong, and

- Advise whether any of them may be able to intervene and assist the community.

DRINGENDE GEMEENSKAPSKENNISGEWING – AVONDALE WATERONDERBREKING

Inwoners van Avondale is tans sonder water omdat kontrakteurs die hoofwaterklep afgeskakel het, in plaas daarvan om net die strate waar onderhoud plaasvind te isoleer.

Probleme:
* Baie huishoudings het geen kennisgewing ontvang nie.
* Kennisgewings is net op sosiale media gedeel, wat baie bejaardes nie gebruik nie.
* Inwoners het geen kans gehad om vooraf water te stoor nie.
* Skole en omliggende strate is nou ook sonder water.
* Watertenks is nie ’n praktiese oplossing vir bejaardes wat nie in rye kan staan of swaar houers kan dra nie.
* Die hitte en huidige maagvirus maak dit ’n ernstige gesondheidsrisiko, aangesien mense nie hande kan was of basiese higiëne kan handhaaf nie.

Ons Versoek / Eis:
Ons doen ’n beroep op die Wyk 29 Raadslid en die Subraad 1 Voorsitter, Allister Lightburn om:
Vandag se onderhoudswerk in Avondale onmiddellik te stop.
Die watertoevoer aan huishoudings onmiddellik te herstel.

Te verseker dat toekomstige onderhoud betyds en behoorlik aan elke huishouding gekommunikeer word, insluitend skriftelike kennisgewings in posbusse, sodat inwoners kan voorberei en water kan stoor.

Water is ’n basiese noodsaaklikheid, en ons kwesbare inwoners moet beskerm word.

URGENT COMMUNITY NOTICE – AVONDALE WATER OUTAGE

Residents of Avondale are currently without water because contractors switched off the main water valve, instead of isolating only the streets where maintenance was planned.

Problems:
* Many households received no notice.
* Notices were only shared on social media, which many senior citizens do not use.
* Residents had no chance to store water beforehand.
* Schools and surrounding streets are now also without water.
* Tankers are not a practical solution for elderly residents who cannot stand in queues or carry heavy containers.
* The heat and current stomach bugs make this a serious public health risk, as people cannot wash hands or maintain basic hygiene.

Our Call / Demand:
We call on the Ward 29 Councillor and the Sub-Council 1 Chairperson, Allister Lightburn to:

Immediately halt today's maintenance work in Avondale.
Restore the water supply to households without delay.

Ensure that future maintenance is properly communicated to every household in advance, including written notices in post boxes, so residents can prepare and store water.

Water is a basic necessity, and our vulnerable residents must be protected.

When residents join our community groups, they are one of us. I may not know your story or what you look like, but if we engage, I consider you family.

I did not know Mr Julies personally, our engagement was around veggies he sold at some stage. For the last few years whenever there was a new group, Mr Donny Julies was one of the first people to click the link. He did not comment much but it became clear that he cared about staying on top of community-related things.

Waking up to this notification this morning brought me much sadness.

Many think of chatgroups as not much, but each and every group cannot exist without its community. And when we lose someone, it hurts.

I want to take this moment to say to you, reading this that, I appreciate you. And thank you for being part of this community.

The family and lovedones of Mr Donny Julies I will keep in my hearts' prayers.

Rest well, Mr Julies. The memories shared are testimony of your life well-lived.
